My first Panerai. PAM 48. Love it.

My first experience with this brand, and it feels very different from any other watch in my collection. I have a thick but narrow wrist, so 40 mm suits my wrist best. Because of the cushion luminor case, the watch wear like 41-42 mm. Surprisingly, even the 16 mm thickness is still looks well and pretty comfortable. Impressed by the unique Luminor case and crown protector. Sharp-cut case and lugs with all brushed finish, lend to serious tool watch, as Panerai should be. Polished bezel and crown protector give nice contrast to prevent the watch become too plain. And I just love the dial : clean look, and matte, slightly grey dial , with generous lume . The legibility is top notch. Three things that become my concern : first, the watch is very heavy. On leather, it weighs almost same with my IWC pilot 3706 on bracelet. Coupled with that famous rotor wobble of valjoux 7750, you will not forget that chunk of metal on your wrist. Second, the cyclop, which slightly detract and make reading the date more difficult at certain angle. It is supposed to aid the reading, but somehow it does not. Third, the deployant, while its is beautifully made, it just cumbersome and clumsy to put it on and off the wrist. I have couples of straps coming, and definitely will use simple pin buckle. Overall, a solid watch from Panerai, the boldest watch I have until now. Also I got a very good deal. Its is a R-series, year 2015, which is the last production year before Panerai replaced it with PAM 1048 with fully polished case. Full set, LNIB, no scratch whatsover. It even had some plastic protector still on it. Got it nearly 60% off the retail price. Thanks for looking.

Strangely I don't experience the same with cyclop on datejust.

I think it is because the cyclop on PAM is too small and rounded

Thanks, Ted. It is not a "flying under radar" watch, for sure.

Recognized and received many positive comments from many friends, even from those who are not into watches, know that it is a Pam. Quite heavy on wrist, though.

They say, "you want to wear the beast, you must be the beast!", it's good to have a watch that can be appreciated by your friends and confidants.

It's those muggers you must be careful off, a hand cover of your watch can work if done discretely.

Yes, I agree, will be careful (same situation with Rolexes)

Personally i'm the type of guy that don't like too much attention to my watches outside from watch community. Thanks for your suggestion

Does anybody have experience about service interval for valjoux 7750?

 By: hoseachandra : August 22nd, 2020-22:00
I heard typically 4-5 years. If so, its time to service but I reluctant to do it because the watch perform good and the condition is like new. I have IWC pilot 3706 which has 7750, and it just serviced after 12 years only because the power reserve is shor...
