It's not just looks...

The 914 started out as a VW to replace their aging Karmann Ghia coupé but they quickly realized they could not develop the car on their own. Ferry Porsche wanted a cheaper car for younger people who could not afford a 912. So, eventually, they decided to share the basic car and sell it as a VW-Porsche in Europe and as a Porsche in the US. The VW model only sold as a 4-cylinder model while Porsche developed the 914-6 at a later stage and sold it as a Porsche only. As such, many people do not consider the 914 as a pure Porsche. I think this is what Sergio was referring to.

P.S. Note the VW logo on the hubcaps on the orange car below

PAM 086 & other earlier models

I’m perplexed. Why is the resale value of some of Panerai’s early 2000’s Ref (such as 086) are not more desired by collectors? I have a hard time understanding why one would purchase a new or newer Ref now costing $6-7k that is just a variant of last year...

Timing.

It is about timing. Panerai is not the current focus. When Panerai was hot and hard to get, you could pick up any Rolex. The coin has flipped. People are chasing after Rolex, Patek and AP stainless sports models. Will it come back around? No one knows. Ho...

If I may....

the PAM086 is as much a Panerai as the Porsche 914 is a...Porsche. It has an overstuffed dial and, if that weren't enough it has an antomatic movment with an english "automatic" written on the dial (Panerai being Italian). If that weren't enough, it has a...

I like that Porsche too!

So is it the “look” that makes it a Porsche or a Panerai? To me, the Radiomir is the 911, and the Luminor is maybe the Boxter. Both are still of the parent and are indeed Panerai and Porsche. But unlike the 914, the Luminor is an active part of the Brand ...

explanation. In fact the 914-916 were known, at the time (I was 19) as the VW-Porsches and were bought mainly by "I-love-Porsche-but-I-can't-afford-a-real-one" and Flower power children that found the new model innovative and somewhat "cute" and anti-esta...
