Greetings fellow Paneristi…a question for the experts

Jun 30, 2024,03:42 AM

Hello everyone- Jon L. here. I’m an old
school Paneristi, was a regular on P.com way back in the day. Spent a lot of time on Timezone, Watchnet and MWR.

I started reading into some very informative posts on Panerai here on Watchprosite and decided to sign up. With that being said…I have a question for the resident experts regarding neo-vintage Panerai production numbers.

According to my research, production numbers for the Luminor Base Pam00002 A-series was 1000 pieces. Subsequent B-series was 1500.

I have come across a beautiful Pam00002 A-series and the case back inscription reads: A1107 / 1500

Can anyone offer insight as to how this
Is possible? Thanks in advance!

OP if you go onto the Pamguard website as you have the BB and serial plus case no. you should be able to confirm.

Ohhhh not good…

Wow in that linked thread Sergio is saying the watch is FAKE? I’m shocked…the watch is held by a highly reputable dealer too. The serial number comes back to a PVD PAM00009 the production for the A-series was 1000 ...

Mystery solved.

Glad you checked.

It’s a great way of identifying a real Pam.

I owe you big time!

I would have been screwed, I was supposed to purchase this piece next week!! I PM’d Sergio asking if he could offer some further insight on this watch.

+++1! Big Font! :)

I have to be honest....

 By: sergio : June 30th, 2024-11:40
the picture is not a very good one. At first glance, it looks like a fake. The the depth of the engraving is, FOR ME, suspicious. It looks like has been done with a laser and not an engraving machine (which would surely make it a fake) Having said that, t...

So the serial could potentially be legit?

Being that the 002 and 009 are both Luminor Base models? Here are some better dial pics of the watch in question… ...

Curious to take a closer look…

Think I’m going to take a close look at this piece under a loupe….I’ll bring my 1A as a reference point. Member Anatol questioned this piece in 2019 so it been floating around at least 5 years. I’d love to know if it’s been with the same dealer all this t...

I still don't have a CLEAN shot of the back!

 By: sergio : June 30th, 2024-13:22
I have a 2Pre-A and the numbering at the back, has nothing to do with the watch itself. It has a 05xx/1000 on the back. There aren't 05xx pieces of 002 Pre-A. Know what I mean? The numbering of your piece is a bit...strange...but not out of the realm of p...

Found it!

Google image search grabbed it… ...

This look like a PVD/DLC

model not a SS one. This "back" drama, makes this piece more suspicious by the....post.

My 1A under a loupe…

Machined Fonts on my 1A case back are deep and textured…pretty cool to see under magnification. That being said, I agree that in comparison the 2A case back is highly suspect. ...

Right here….

These pics also show that the lever looks suspicious as well. It’s also polished which is inconsistent with being original. granted, I’ve seen pieces where the levers were polished as a result of (crappy) servicing. ...

My 1A…

Here’s a few beauties that have come and gone… ...

What's with the hands of this pieces??

 By: sergio : June 30th, 2024-15:16
both the 001 and this 002, look like the hands were...flooded. Not the whole dial, just the hands. Weird

1A hands

 By: JL1NY : June 30th, 2024-15:54
Imo (I’m far from an expert) the hands on my 1A seem fine. Under magnification (see pic) the tritium degradation appears legit and under UV light the hands fade consistent with the dial. Given the age of the piece, who’s to say that moisture wasn’t a cont...

Great close up.

This knowledge obtained from this thread saved me from some serious aggravation. 🫡

Thanks!

Pretty cool what you can do with just an iPhone and a loupe.

Clearly!

By the way....

the reason why I didn't reply to your private message, it's because I preferred to answer you directly in the forum. It was too "intriguing" a 3D to make it a 2 people's affair. Glad I could be of service.

Totally understood.

Again, thank you for your insight.

I own a couple of T-dialled models....

 By: sergio : June 30th, 2024-19:03
and the "hands" are in prestine conditions. If not, I wouldn't have bought them. My 2, which is older than the one you posted ...

Incredible specimen
