Conclusion of Panerai / La Jolla Concours and Motor Car Classic

Apr 14, 2014,07:11 AM

I should finish this off with a general view of a few cars that I liked. A gutsy Isotta Fraschini owned and driven by Bill Evans.

A fantastic 1958 Cadillac Limousine; I think there were only 3-4 of these built

A Brace of Bentleys

Not just cars; there were plenty of olde world bikes too.

A Duesenberg in patriotic livery caught the eye of Mrs C.

While the Wandering Purist wouldn't forgive me if I didn't include an action shot of his favorite brand

Keith Martin, publisher of Sports Car Market was the emcee and award presenter. I don't know who won any of the awards, sorry.

This car seemed the right place to put an end to our participation in the Concours enclosure. What a lovely rear end!

The sun came out as we wandered homewards on the closed and car-packed streets, lugging our bag of goodies and wondering which Paneral should fit into the Cazalea watch closet...

It was uphill all the way back to our car.

and coincidentally, our path took us right past the Panerai boutique, which had some customers in, trying on watches to take home with them.

I hope you enjoyed the report as much as I enjoyed remembering yesterday! Many many thanks to Rafael Alvarez, Michele Gallagher, Allison Sottile and the rest of the Panerai folks for their kind assistance.

Cazalea

I was fortunate yesterday to be able to represent PuristSPro at the La Jolla Concours d'Elegance, and to enjoy gracious hospitality as a guest of Panerai. It was a special day for me; I have lived in this area of Southern California most of my life, and k...

Perhaps I could devote some space to the vehicles parked around on the lawns. How can I manage to convey the enormity of this show? Some Purists I know are interested in the beauty of the automobile. Raise your hand if that's your preference ... I took so...

If you want to send me back in the past, I have Auto Shows from London, Geneva, Los Angeles, SEMA in Las Vegas, etc going back about 20 years in my archives. I used to publish automotive books for a living. That meant Auto Shows. Mike

Excellent coverage

And excellent pictures too. Was Ralph Lauren and Jay Leno or any of their cars present this year? I have never been to a US car show but used to go to the Goodwood Festival of Speed every year back in the UK. Great coverage. Love the Pam girl ! Dean

Most of the cars were from Southern California; not like Goodwood

 By: cazalea : April 15th, 2014-09:04
None of the national heavy hitters came in for this. A few cars came down from Los Angeles. We have more than enough around this area to fill a field, as you can see. Now Goodwood - that IS a treat. Home of jaw-dropping displays and dodgy weather. I think...

Excellent report Mike ...

Thanks Abel. It was fun to put it together. I forgot to show this Corvair Monza Turbo Convertible (yes, I've owned several Corvairs) ...

I love seeing ladies wearing a Panerai. That is really sensual.

Thanks for the presentation, Mike. Felt like I could have been walking around with you. And the Panerai tent looked like a great place to relax and do some watch spotting. Andrew

More relaxing a place than this Roller
