I would suggest.....

to look for a Fiddy NOS (a.k.a. PAM127), which would satisfy both your requirements. 3-6-9-12+second counter and guard bridge.
For the first Panerai, I it would be just great. If it were to become the first and....last....it would be an even better choice

Calling on the Panerai expert! Which would you choose?

Dear fellow purist, Panerai is a brand I still wonder why I do not own yet and I have been thinking of getting a Panerai for a while now. I am no expert between all their models but two of them picked my interest. First I am looking for no date, small sec...

You may have to hunt the secondary market

a Panerista, let alone a Panerai purist but the...only...similarity the PAM674 and the PAM127 share is the...PANERAI on the dial. The 127 is considered one of the icons of the brand and exudes tradition. The other, the 674, is a "pretty" commercial model,...
I had the exact question myself: which one?
By: COUNT DE MONET : December 2nd, 2020-12:41
Don't you think a first Panerai needs that typical crown guard? The "green" one (sorry Paneristi for my lack of knowledge of Panerai referencesđŁ) is very, very nice, yes, but as a second or third Panerai in a collection.
I personally donât think so.
By: Ahoi : December 2nd, 2020-12:54
Historically The first panerai didnât had the crown guard. That was introduced with the third generation of u want to say so. Have look on that picture. From the left to the right you see the evolution. My first panerai was as well something similar to th...
+1 for the 995
By: Arronax : December 2nd, 2020-18:10
I think automatic on the dial of any classic pam is an eyesore, less of a problem on the submersible. As a daily wear the crown lever is less of a hassle than the screwed down crown, however the 995 is an auto so the point is moot. If you like green the p...
Another vote for the 995.

But I do sympathize with your crown guard comment as this is for 99% of buyers a signature design feature. That said, if a crown guard is a must the 127/Fiddy would be a great choice. I do find the 995 a very powerful and pure look, and that green is craz...

although the green dial is very attractive it can prove difficult to pair it with everyday clothes. In terms of signature, both models feature them, of course the crown protection is an additional signature and it is unique to Panerai. Personally if I had...

Out memory I'll say 372, 663, 662, 1080, 587, 127, 217, 590, or 609, 190, 339 But what is more important is the one you like.
One distinction that does not seem to be acknowledged here . . .

is the fact that the watches you are looking at both have sandwich dials and not sausage dials. I have always preferred sandwich dials, but I notice some of the recommendations here may include sausage dials. Having said that, I have had about a dozen PAM...

You can notice the "sandwich" dial. The one below, has..grooves on the dial, painted or filled with luminous material (Radium, Tritium, Luminova, Super luminova). ...
