the absence of Marina Militare and the 9 on a black dial (instead of the opulent brown one of the 36) make the 40 a far less attractive model, for me. The Tritium indices and the 200 pieces, never compensated for the...losses..IMO

..and I couldn't agree with you more, from a strictly collectable point of view. It's just..this..particular model I don't like much at all.

Cousin to the 40 with the blue dial and date give it balance to the 12 and 6. Imo ...  

PAM40 and PAM70 are..chalk&cheese. The date (let alone one with the magnifying lense) kills any Panerai dial, doesn't "give balance"

Not quite. To set the record straight, though, there are 1500 PAM22 out there of which: 200-A series, 500-B series (some T-dialled some L-dialled), 500-C series and 300-D series. So, in general your assertion is incorrect since there are an awful lot of 2...
