Yes, I've read that. The point is that why is it only Type D (KS) 3646 w/ anon dials made by Panerai that should be included in this period when in fact

Jan 12, 2019,20:15 PM

it should be all 3646 Types D, E. F. and G including those fitted with the celebrated California dials by Stern and the "ugly" Brass dials presumably made by Junghans that were all delivered to the KS in the same way.

The Type E 3646 with California dials are even more anonymous than the the Type D 3646 with anonymous Panerai dials as the Type E's don't even have Rolex stamps on the movements or the inner case backs as supposedly Rolex didn't want to be associated with them.  Yet no one bats an eye that these watches have been recreated faithfully or "fancifully" by Richemont many times already (PAM 249, 448, 424, 779, 718, etc).

Aren't Cali dial watches by Richemont then supposed to be disrespectful to the Panerai family as well?

Am I wrong?

I'm so amazed at how close this one is to the original Type D 3646

The only nitpick would be that the open loops on the "6" and "9" are not as open as the original.

She comes nicely close to the original.

Good eye with the loops. It’s true and not true. There are different models. The one shown on pereszopes report has indeed more open loops. That might have been a nice add on. the D 3646 on his poster has again the same one as the 721. More open dials wou...

There are indeed two types of Kampfschwimmer sandwich dials. The first batch with almost closed loops and the second batch with open loops. The second batch is more common, at least in my database. More details about these dials can be found here: perezco...

thx Jose for the clarification.

what is your general view about the 721? I am aware about your article. But straight forward your view about this homage? Top or flop? Greetings

Imo too thick compared to original Kampfschwimmer watches

The issue seems to be the height of the P.3000 but hey, if you like the looks it's certainly a nice watch. To me it's a watch that due to its history and the circumstances under which they were delivered – out of respect for the Panerai family – should ne...

Wasn't delivery of Ref. 3646 Types E, F, and G (including California dial watches) the same as Type D

 By: reintitan : January 11th, 2019-18:41
In that they went to the KS instead of straight to Italian forces? And for that matter 3646 Types A, B, and C went to the Itailian Fascists forces? So in general all Rolex Panerai delivered in the late 1930s - 1940s went to all Axis forces. You can say th...

Neither were any 3646 of any type

 By: reintitan : January 11th, 2019-22:57
Rolex made them for Panerai and Panerai only supplied the dials BUT they didn’t even supply all the dials. For the California dial watches you can say that these are 0% Panerai as the dials were made by Stern for Rolex. At least the 3,6,9,12 dials in the ...

All 3646 (Type D, E, F & G) made in 1944 went to the Nazis

Yes, all of them could be considered disrespectful towards the Panerai family. The thing is, when the 249 came out in 2006, nobody called them out. I wrote about it here: Cheers Jose Pereztroika

Thanks for the input. IMO, all Panerai from the War years are going to be controversial

For example, 3646 Types A through C were worn by Mussolini's Fascists forces who wore them as part of their kit they used to sink Allied shipping, while the aforementioned 3646 Types D through G were confiscated by the Nazis and worn by their forces. I pe...

Never considered the 721 out of the eyes and view from Maria. Seeing it like that its for sure not very empathetic. Concerns are not really know by empathetic senses are they?.

If i am honest, I don't think too much about WW2 when wearing my 721 or think about war wearing my other PAM. If i would, i would loose the fun about my passion and i should quite the brand. So sad, most of the other brands and not really better. I hate w...

it's still part of Panerai history. The good along with the bad. It's bad what happened to the Panerai family at this time, but I still appreciate the beauty of the watches they made in this era and that's the context in which I place them.

Also my love is still vital...
