I like them...

I'm glad Panerai decided to make these. I'd consider them to be "relationship builder" pieces in a lot of different aspects; getting to know an AD, or a boutique, or just the Panerai brand in general...They provide a sense of design depth outside of the well known and iconic Lums and Rads. For someone like me with only a 177, and not a huge budget, one or two of these pieces along with a 372 would make for a pretty well rounded Panerai story. Then there's always time to go after PreA, PreV or vintage stuff. And for the heavy hitters, the SE's are there for them with more historically accurate details etc.

That said, the designer in me hates the date on the Cali dial. The logo I don't mind. I like the maile on the SLC dial. It's minimal enough for me.

The PAM424 and PAM425 are the regular production models of the special editions PAM448 & PAM449 (of which I posted here: panerai.watchprosite.com ). PAM424 47mm Radiomir California 3 Days PAM425 47mm Radiomir S.L.C. 3 Days (below prototype is missing the ...

As I wrote about them in my 2012 Panerai SIHH review... They are total nonsense. Why? Come on, mixing a Pre V Logo and a ... DATE ( ??? !!! ) on a Cali, is just an historical massacre. And a Pig ( Maiale ) on the 2533 is just an aesthetical massacre. Thes...

Really a matter of catering for different crowd

No love from me neither but for new buyer entering into the buzz of Panerai I'm sure these would sell well. We can't really expect Panerai to ONLY produce historically correct models all the time in limited quantity. Afterall it's only business.

+ 1. Totally.

Well said.

I think we get too carried away with "historically correct". I can tell you when I bought my first PAM in 2001 nobody used that term. It came out a few years later and became so important to everyone. Kind of comical to me. The nice thing is the brand "di...

Amanico and Jester above... I so love these two dial in its original form. And being that they are so simple and elementary (isn't that the essence of Panerai?), I can (kinnda) see Panerai needing to tweek it to make them viable for long term production. ...

at least 2 years before bringing the 424/425 out IMO, it's to fast after last year's platinum and white gold version and devaluates the interest in these models that bearly entered the market. Besides that if you bring out a LE (448/449) of those 2 in the...
