Got one last year and love it

Apr 17, 2021,16:49 PM

Previous I had a 338. It was small, light, flat, manual, and gold hands. However I wanted something with the engraved dial, found blued hands tickle me the same as gold, like the patent stamp (even though it is purely decorative.
At 45mm on a 6-¾ wrist it wears comfortably. It os more wearable than the 317 luminor case. As people have suggested, try it on. Took me three days to decide it was love.

What do you think about PAM 992 ?

 By: Flanker : April 17th, 2021-08:51
I have tried it once and found the dial a bit cramped, if it would be 47 mm it could be better. However every time I see it, I am considering to try it again, brushed case and blue hands are really cool. What are your opinions ? ...

Radiomir version of the PAM590...

i don't like...both This "dial" saw it's birth on the GPF2/56 Egiziano, which was a 60mm whopper. It was revisited on the 47mm, PAM203. Then on the 44mm PAM590. Now on another 44mm. What's next on a 38mm Luminor Due?? lollllllllllllllll

What is your concern with the dial Sergio?

To have both seconds and 8 Days writing or the general proportions of the markers/writings?

For me....

Panerai has always been the epitomy of: less is more. This dial (again, for me) it's way too busy....

Yes

That is what I felt when I said “cramped”.

+1

I like it.

Panerai has released so many models with slight variations, but this one turned out fine for me. I am not into all the "historically correct" crap that others get stuck on. This is a modern release by a brand that has been doing it this way for years. Thi...

Thanks for the comments Michael

In fact I’ve found myself agreeing with all of your posts recently

I am with Sergio, here.

 By: amanico : April 17th, 2021-09:11

Yes 47 could be better.

 By: Flanker : April 17th, 2021-09:33
However, would you buy it if you had the chance?

Go for it, if it works for you on your wrist 👍

No message body

It is a bit thick, so you should try it on...

Otherwise, it has a beautiful "aged" steel look: watchesbysjx.com Photo: watchcollectinglifestyle ...

Thanks for the warning

 By: Flanker : April 17th, 2021-09:59
I already tried it and thickness is not so bad ( I am used to Panerai style). My concern was about the busy dial, however everytime I check the Panerai catalog, this one comes as one of the best options.

I love the aged steel

 By: Brandon Skinner : April 17th, 2021-12:16
Another one of these “modern” tweaks which aren’t necessarily historically correct. Who wants a super shiny military dive watch? THAT makes NO sense! The aged steel is very cool and would gladly submit my 372 to Panerai for them to age it if only it were ...

I’m with Sergio too, after he explained the historical context...also note that the “3” got dropped from the original design as the iterations became smaller and smaller ;-))

I’m probably being a “purist” here (and in general), but I like a watch to be both horologically interesting AND significant in the context of a brand...hence I’d try to get one of the earliest possible iterations of this nice dial😉 Cheers.

Love it!

My preferred entry in the current catalog. If they had made the “Radiomir Panerai” in white it would be absolutely perfect... but I’m biased, I had a 590 for several years ( now regretting a bit selling it)

Any details?

Wow... interesting journey and almost ended up with you.

I still have the 338 and 368, but I loved the 317 and contemplated the 992 many times. The engraved dial is something I do wish I had.... maybe enough a reason to get a 372 LOL....

Had 590 with logo, too busy/cramped

Let it go...prefer cleaner dials on Panerai

Same here...

You have found one of the pieces that has an engraved dial... really cool feature

 By: Darron : April 17th, 2021-19:28
I too, waffled on this piece... for Panerai I like manual movements, preferably 8 day but I like the older 2002 movement over all the newer ones. My favorite dial layout actually has all 4 numerals and small seconds. Not too many choices there. This watch...

They put way too much on dial.

 By: Ahoi : April 17th, 2021-23:40
All blue hands they found. With these much things on the dial they should have put into a 47mm case. Which I would like to see anyhow . What is nice is the finish of the case . PAnerai has produced worse watches in the past. So it’s a good looking Panerai...

These many things.....

 By: sergio : April 18th, 2021-02:42
....and more were already used on a 47mm and the result was somewhat surprising, since the dial looks less..busy. IMO Image obtained on the web ...

Interesting

I would like to imagine it without 3 and 9.

The quintessential Panerai...

 By: sergio : April 18th, 2021-05:23
has a 3, a 6, a 9 and a 12. Anything you take away...maims it Adding a small seconds counter, strangely, has a far less negative impact than taking away one of the 4 "cardinal" numbers. IMO of course.

Yes....

 By: sergio : April 18th, 2021-14:58
IMO of course.

Mine it's a PERSONAL...

 By: sergio : April 18th, 2021-16:21
opinion. I do own a 36 BTW and I like it a lot too. I also own 2 "Firenze" models: 604 and 605, like them a lot an still consider them "post cards" wannabes. Other people are entitled to think whatever they...prefer.

Nicely said, Sergio.

Thanks John and everyone for the valuable comments.

I think I need to see it on my wrist once more and then think over it.

Ticked a few boxes for me

45mm Radiomir (I have a 190 which fits well), sandwich dial, blue hands, 8-days, display back, cool finish of the steel, and one of the best OEM straps I have seen.
