fair solution

I wonder how many units will actually make it back to get their movements swapped.

Still, time will tell if the future prices of these two potential variants varies much and if one or the other turns more collectible.

Very interesting.

Just goes to show that if you don't ask you won't ever get anything. I hope this is true. Best regards, George

Hats off to Paddy. These are Paddy's words, and Paddy's apologize, then.

If I read it well... " The movement isq not inferior "... I love this kind of BS. Then, why thinking about offering to change it? They should have stayed on their statement, if the movement in question wasn't inferior. Come on, an official apologize shoul...

I agree.

You're quite right. The movement is clearly inferior. That is what "the issue" is. If the movement wasn't inferior no one would have complained. As you say a simple apology and recognition that they made mistake would have been the way to go.

I would actually have let everyone keep theatre e cheap mouvement.

That would have had a touch of class. Best regards, George

Good & Fair Move from Panerai

the Brand that Respects their Passionate Followers.

Thanks for the info Bruno

It's a kind gesture from Panerai and it's a sign they admit they made a mistake. However, I think many of the PAM318 owners will elect to still keep their original movements due to collectibility IMO. Cheers, Anthony

Why not make the swap...

 By: BDLJ : November 10th, 2011-20:32
...then get yourself an unfinished handwind movement. That way you're covered for any future 'collectibilty' scenario.

'due to collectibility'

 By: Bruno.M1 : November 11th, 2011-00:40
I agree The funny thing is that untill recently the 318 was nothing special, It was a nice Panerai but it was almost the same as the 005. Yes, it was very limited (only 150 of them) so not like the 41x series. 41x is also limited for boutiques but in tota...

a fair solution ... but ....

a strange way to communicate a so called official statement via an 'unoffficial resource' , why not simply use their own website and communicate it there ??? how will everyone involved be informed on the occasion of a switch if you are not visiting p.com ...

you have a point

 By: Bruno.M1 : November 11th, 2011-07:46
what about all the people that don't read these forums On the other hand, I think 95% of these 150 watches went to die hard fans who do read these forums. I mean, that kind of watches is always sold out after 24hrs so only the well informed fans will be a...

Maaa che oooh! That is a brilliant and innovative marketting concept. :) [nt]

Very bad answer

 By: Dje : November 11th, 2011-04:00
Hi, I'm just discovering this whole story and I find their answer out of proportion (I mean far below what i would expect). If they wanted to say "sorry, let"s repair (not just your watch dear client, your honor too)", they should just fill the watches wi...

A blund pr stunt: wrong movement in a limited watch ??? OOOH NOOOO!

By: COUNT DE MONET : November 11th, 2011-05:09
Sorry, a company that makes unlimited numbers of limited pieces from the same old watch has now put a wrong movement into a limited watch? Please. One more reason for me not to have one, as I dod not like the main theme of this brand: war. Regards Moritz

Going into the path of Hublot?

 By: patrickmaniac : November 12th, 2011-00:22
Sensational marketing but at least their movement were decorated. This is causing quite a stir indeed! After this fiasco, I think most owners of the 318 would hold on to their unchanged limited editions? Like the wrong dial versions of other watches? chee...

Right now the world is largely economically going burst! Yet...

It is funny to see how some of the guys would see something made of crap being collectible! If they mean, to them collectible that I can comprehend, but if they trully think others would jump on that wagoon collectibility of that sort and likes, that I wa...

irrational hope? it would be interesting indeed to see

 By: patrickmaniac : November 12th, 2011-06:57
How this merry go round would turn out. And more imptly how panerai handles this fiasco besides just offering to change the movement. All the years of brand building ruined by a lapse of carelessness or folly? Cheers PAt

Carelessness?

 By: dr.limms : November 12th, 2011-20:35
Carelessness or fraud? Carelessness is when you inadvertently do some something without care. Obviously not when you do it 150 times, with clear intention. I fail to see what is careless about it. It is a fraud.

The human behaviour

is so unpredictable. Like the saying goes: "One man's poison, another man's meat". I do agree with your point. People buy these luxury timepieces for estheticism. If Crap like these can become collectible items, any Panerai rip offs in the night markets o...

Hi, As a Panerai owner (111, not a 318), I find the whole incident to be extremely disappointing. Richemont has been investing into the brand buy keeping production limited, developing in-house calibers and direct to consumer boutiques. This has been a lo...

It was a fraud.

 By: dr.limms : November 12th, 2011-20:25
Why hasn't anyone used the word FRAUD yet? The whole 318 was a fraud. Someone had better check the other Panerais that do not have display case back to make sure. The chronometer claim was a fraud. The movement was the cheapest of the cheap. Notice the No...

... i wonder what movements they put in their Ferrari-line some years ago ... ? Those were watches NOT bought by the real Paneristi i guess, but a lot were probably bought by Ferrari owners knowing not a lot about watches ... . To come back to the Panerai...

Cheap Movement

 By: abnerc15 : November 16th, 2011-06:07
Guys it isnt about what Panerai advertised the movement as before the launch or what it was advertised as after the launch...... To see such a Low quality and distasteful looking movement in a High end watch is a crime!!!! ..... PERIOD!!!!
