Richard Mille and Patek Philippe to highlight Antiquorum's September 2015 Auction

Antiquorum Auctioneers, the world's premier watch auctioneer, is excited to kick off the Fall 2015 auction season with its September 30th auction of "Important Modern & Vintage Timepieces" to be held at their US headquarters located at 805 Third Avenue in New York City.  Featuring 314 outstanding timepieces, highlights of the sale include extremely rare pieces from Richard Mille, Patek Philippe, A. Lange & Sohne, Breguet and Jaeger-LeCoultre. Prior to the auction, previews will be held in Singapore, Hong Kong and New York.

 

Richard Mille and Patek Philippe to Highlight Antiquorum's September Auction



The highlight of the auction is the exceptional Richard Mille RM 027 Tourbillon Rafael Nadal, No. 13/50, produced circa 2011.  A dream watch for Richard Mille aficionados and Rafael Nadal fans alike, this extraordinary timepiece is a tonneau-shaped and curved, very light (13 gr.)  carbon wristwatch with visible one-minute tourbillon regulator and 48 power reserve. The RM 027 was developed in collaboration with Rafael Nadal, the celebrated Spanish professional tennis player who is currently ranked number 8 in the world. Nadal also known as "The King of Clay" is widely regarded as the finest clay court player in history.

Also for the Richard Mille collector, Antiquorum is pleased to present the Richard Mille RM 59-01 Yohan Blake Tourbillon Skeleton Composite, No. 40/50. Produced in 50 pieces in 2014, this is a very fine and unusual tonneau-shaped and curved asymmetric, skeletonized composite wristwatch with visible one minute tourbillon regulator and 42 hour power reserve.Yohan Blake nicknamed "The Beast" is a medal-winning Olympic sprinter. He won a gold medal at the 100 m at the 2011 world championships as the youngest 100 m world champion ever, and a silver medal in the 2012 London Olympic Games in the 100 m and 200 m races for the Jamaican team. The RM 059 was developed in collaboration with Yohan and according to Richard Mille "designed to be capable to cut through air" with its asymmetrical, streamlined and aerodynamic shape, resulting in the lowest possible drag coefficient.

Patek Philippe collectors will be competing for the Patek Philippe Ref. 5204 Perpetual Calendar Chronograph. Produced circa 2013, this is a very rare, platinum wristwatch with split-second chronograph, registers, perpetual calendar, moon phases, leap year and 24 hour indication. The reference was introduced at the Basel Watch Fair in 2012, replacing the brand's iconic reference 5004 split-seconds chronograph perpetual calendar model. It houses the completely new in-house chronograph movement with the addition of the split-seconds and perpetual functions. This present example has the first generation dial configuration used for this reference; namely with the luminous white gold markers and black oxidized hands creating a stark contrast for maximum visibility. This iteration was replaced two years later, hence making this present example exceptionally rare and a highly sought-after piece for true Patek Philippe collectors.

Also for Patek Philippe enthusiasts, Antiquorum experts are delighted to offer the Patek Philippe Ref. 5102 Celestial Retailed by Mercury Russia Special Edition, No 41/50. This is an extremely fine, astronomic wristwatch features mean time indication, nocturnal sky chart of the Northern Hemisphere, moon phases and moon orbit, time of the meridian passage of Sirius and moon.

Another exceptional timepiece offered is the Jaeger LeCoultre Ref. 187.3.46.S Master Grand Tradition Sonnerie Minute Repeater Tourbillon in White Gold, No. 47/75. Made in a limited edition of 75 pieces in 2010, this is a very rare, large minute-repeating,18K white gold wristwatch with flying tourbillon, sky chart, and 24 hour indication.

Estimate: $ 150,000 – 250,000

A. Lange & Sohne is well represented in the sale with two extraordinary examples of "haute horlogerie."

A Lange & Sohne  Ref. 760.032F Richard Lange Tourbillon Pour Le Merite in Pink Gold. Sold in 2012, this is a rare 18K pink gold wristwatch with visible one-minute tourbillon, off-center hour dial and large central minute dial.

Estimate: $ 120,000 -180,000

A Lange & Sohne  Grand Lange 1 "Lumen" Ref. 117.035 Platinum, offered for the first time at auction. Sold in December 2013, this is an extremely fine and rare, platinum wristwatch with off-center hour dial, oversized date, 72 hour power reserve indication.

Patek Philippe aficionados will be vying for The Patek Philippe Ref. 5975 175th Anniversary Chronograph in Pink Gold.  Made in 2014 in a limited edition of 400 pieces to commemorate the 175th anniversary of  Patek Philippe, it is a very rare 18K pink gold wristwatch with square-button chronograph, tachometer, telemeter, pulsometer and engraved case back," Patek Philippe, Geneve, 175 Anniversaire, 1839 – 2014."

Estimate: $70,000 – 120,000

Also offered in the September sale, is an outstanding selection of gem set luxury timepieces highlighted by exquisite models from Chopard and Breguet.

Chopard Ref. 4240 Imperiale White Gold Diamond & Sapphire. Sold in 2014, this is an extremely fine and very impressive, 18K white gold wristwatch set with baguette diamonds and baguette sapphires and an 18K white gold Chopard buckle set with 48 round diamonds and 10 calibrated baguette sapphires.

Estimate: $200,000 – 300,000

Breguet Ref. 5238 Skeleton Chronograph White Gold & Diamonds. Made in the 2000s, this is a very fine and rare, skeletonized 18K white gold and diamond-set wristwatch with round button chronograph and register.

Estimate: $120,000 - 220,000

Antiquorum is also delighted to present an impressive collection of coin watches with exceptional examples commemorating US Presidents Johnson and Nixon as well as Israeli President Weizmann. These historically significant timepieces represent a rare opportunity to acquire an important part of world history.

Corum President Lyndon Johnson Inauguration Watch.  Produced in only 2 pieces, one given to President Johnson, and the other carefully preserved and now presented for sale. Made in the 1960's this is rare, thin yellow gold wristwatch with a bas-relief of Lyndon Johnson on the case back.  Lyndon B. Johnson "LBJ" was the 36th President of the United States, succeeding John F. Kennedy following his assassination in November, 1963. Strongly supported by the Democratic Party, he designed the "Great Society" legislation upholding Civil rights, public broadcasting, Medicare, Medicaid aid to education, the arts, rural development and services.  He also helped millions rise above the poverty line with his "War on Poverty." 

Estimate: $5,000 -8,000

Corum President Richard Nixon Inauguration Watch. Produced in only 2 pieces, one given to President Nixon and the other carefully preserved and now being offered at auction. Made in 1969, this is a rare, yellow gold wristwatch with a bas-relief of Richard Nixon on the case back. Nixon was the 37th President of the United States and holds the distinction of being the only US President to resign from office. He ended the American involvement in the Vietnam War and brought the American POWs home. During his administration, he ended military draft, enforced desegregation and established the Environmental Protection Agency. In 1972, he opened diplomatic relations with China, which contributed to his re-election by one of the largest landslides in US history. However, an Arab oil embargo and the Watergate scandal cost him most of his political support leading him to choose resignation over his almost impeachment in August 1974.

Corum President of Israel Chaim Weizmann Watch. Made in the 1960s, this is a fine and rare, thin 18K yellow gold wristwatch with a bas-relief of  President Chaim Weizmann on the case back. Chaim Weizmann was the President of the Zionist Organization and subsequently the first President of Israel in 1949, a post he held until his death in 1952. Weizmann worked with President Truman to obtain the support of the US government for the establishment of the state of Israel. In addition to his role as President, he was also an accomplished biochemist who developed an important production method for acetone for the British in WWII and founded the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel.

Estimate: 5,000 -7,000

Finally, Antiquorum experts are pleased to offer two timepieces formerly belonging to William Edward Boeing, the American aviation pioneer who founded the Boeing Company.

The first timepiece offered belonging to William Edward Boeing is a Hamilton "Fahys" fine and rare, square 14K white gold and black enamel wristwatch produced in 1929. The case back is engraved, " To W. E. Boeing in Recognition of Services rendered Aeronautics, The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, St. Louis, May 29 -1929."

Estimate: $1,000 – 2,000

Also offered is the Emilie Perret Hunting Cased Yellow Gold Pocket Chronometer "To William Boeing" in Yellow Gold. Made in 1871, it features a white enamel dial with Radial Roman numerals, outer minute ring and sunk subsidiary seconds. The case back bears the inscription, "Souvenir to William Boeing 1871."

Estimate: $2,000 – 4,000
