SalonQP 2017: MONTBLANC Behind the Wheel

Nov 21, 2017,05:48 AM

Dear Montblanc forumners,

THANKS to Anita Borvankar and the Montblanc UK Team.

I was pleasantly surprised by Montblanc at SalonQP 2017 in London.
Three watch brands with German-speaking associations were featured at the 'Behind the Wheel' exhibit: Montblanc, Chopard and IWC.

This special exhibition explored the intrinsic relationship between the worlds of watchmaking and motoring.

Montblanc sponsors motorsports like the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

MINERVA CHRONOGRAPHS

Minerva chronograph

While Montblanc may be relatively new in the chronograph game, they have both depth and breadth in the field.

Montblanc acquired renown chronograph maker Minerva and inherited the depth of knowledge of short time measurement since 1908.

They timed the 1936 Winter Olympics.

Their 360,000 vph calibre 42 could time within 1/100th seconds.

MONTBLANC CHRONOGRAPHS

Montblanc Rieussec GMT Chronograph

Recently, Montblanc has taken the art and science further to produce stunning and innovative chronographs of their own, such as the Rieussec range, TimeWalker 1000th of a Second Chronograph and ExoTourbillon Minute Chronograph.

The Montblanc 1000th of a Second instrument improves short timing resolution ten times better than even the great Minerva mechanisms.

TIMEWALKER COLLECTION

TimeWalker Automatic chronograph rose gold with ceramic bezel

While others may rave about the ceramic bezel on the new rose gold TimeWalker Automatic Chronograph, I prefer the utility of the Timewalker UTC chronograph with the added function of a GMT/2nd time zone.

Truth be told, the all black design with red accents is what really gets to me!

What do you think?

Are there other Montblanc chronographs, not shown, that you prefer?

MTF

I did not see any of those on display at the Motoring exhibit but can understand why it may receive some votes! Regards, MTF

Those things are built for racing without any luxury

It was all sparse and lightweight, without any comforts or luxury. The cockpit had minimal padding and the switchgear only marked with sticky labels! MTF

The PG Timewalker chronograph was a world premiere if not wrong.

This version was featuring a chocolate brown dial color. Sadly, I didn't shoot it. Thanks for the pics. Fx

Yes but it was not easy

The brands at the Motoring & Watches exhibit had no manned booth at SalonQP anymore unlike previous years. There was no opportunity to take photographs outside the display cases. As it was just an educational display, the lighting was too harsh for go...

Thanks for your great coverage, MTF!

Montblanc are certainly serious about the racing part of their heritage and about including it into their TimeWalker line.

Certainly the TimeWalker range is full of chronographs now

The new Head of Watches at Montblanc must be a car guy because recently there have been many chronographs that look sporty with hi-tech materials and mechanisms. Imagine...1/1000th seconds resolution...amazing! Regards, MTF

Has Davide Ceratto been there in his Morgan?
