New 1858 Split Second with Minerva 16,31 Movement...

Apr 16, 2020,08:57 AM

we see a lot of love for the Montblanc 1858 Tachymeter with the Minerva Cal 16.29...wonderfully finished manually wound monopusher Chrono.

I’ve tried this timepiece & it is undeniably impressive!

Then the '2019 Only Watch’ – Titanium Split Seconds Monopusher Chrono with a Agate Stone dial

And now…Montblanc packs value again - the 1858 Split Second with BLUE ENAMEL + Minerva 16,31 Movement...in Titanium Gr5

the heart…I love the movement, rattrapante chronograph with two column wheels and lateral clutch !

Impressively finished too...

Finally the face of the watch – blue enamel grand feu with splash of color & luminous numerals...

While 44mm case is on the higher side…It justifies the space for the pocket watch movement and it is a LE 100 !

Personally I feel it has packed very good value and puts the watch forward, not necessarily the brand…

What do you think ?

Best,

Mahesh.,

Well, I agree it is beautiful. My 1858 broke and the service experience was HORRENDOUS.

I am very reasonable and accept a failure can happen with any brand or product. But I also count on a reasonable service process to restore faith and correctly address the issues, and in my case, it did just the opposite. I would never, ever purchase any ...

I do recollect reading your post Michael...& true most brands struggle on after-sales-service !

I agree with you, certain experiences like this can put an enthusiast off...I hope Montblanc takes efforts in right direction to restore your faith.

I recall reading this earlier and is such a pity. This Rattrapante....

Looks like a real winner. Service is so essential though. Sorry for your bad experience. I had an issue with Lange and I had to be really patient. Like a year+ back and forth patient, but in the end the AD and Lange made everything right. That was a nice ...

Everybody here knows how much kind of watches exist. The MB 1858 is a watch that is typical a time peace i like. Out of 1000 sands on the globe. So i am glad to celebrate them. Minerva, i say, this is chicken skin on everything.

+1 [nt]

in deed, it is hard to find such a level of movement finish even in high-end manually wound chronos !

For me it looks

Too much like the 2019 only watch. It’s fine for the buyers of this new one but not good for the only watch owner from last year. I feel Montblanc has yet again spoiled the exclusivity of the 1859 chrono collection.

cool

Super cool. Trade the chrono for the rattrapante? best.

Wow wow! On paper and on the screen it is an absolute beauty and bargain.

However, while I applaud the large movement size, the large 44mm case is a put off. For a vintage guy who loves the vintage aesthetic, they should really think about a vintage sized version ie. 38-40mm, for example shrink down this movement into the cases...

i see your point, while 44mm makes it difficult for some wrist like myself - i think the movement is quite huge...just the balance wheel is 14,5 mm !

 By: mahesh : April 17th, 2020-00:30
also the architecture is 3 dimentional adding to the height. it is a pocket watch movement and i'm sure dia wasn't in aim @ designing it

Great value for money

with a superbly finished movement but personally, I am not too keen on the blue enamel dial. Perhaps another colour would have been more appealing. Another worry I have is that Montblanc has been infamous for annually producing a limited edition of the sa...

in deed Sham. 44mm is a challenge for my wrist but wearable in deed.

i feel the dial have to be seen in real, different pictures shows very different hue of blue and the chrono hands is actually 'red' but is more orange in pictures ! the movement architecture & size is intriguing - 14,5mm balance @ 18k bph ;-)

I agree Mahesh

The movement architecture on the Minervas are quite breathtaking.

why is that - just curious to understand the reason behind ?

 By: mahesh : April 18th, 2020-03:05
sometimes we look for brand, i feel here the watch, the movement takes precedence...

It is just my personal feelings

 By: Gelato Monster : April 18th, 2020-05:48
Perhaps it is because I always associate MB with writing instruments. I am even having trouble liking MB leather stuff. Knowing the movement is Minerva somehow strengthen the feeling.

well...

some people want to protect their bucks, other are interested in haute horlogerie. It is rather seldom that both go together because imho "buck protection" works only with things that a lot of people appreciate

Honestly perhaps because of childhood experiences.

 By: Gelato Monster : April 18th, 2020-07:58
PP and Rolex has always been the watch of choice of Parents ie childhood dream.I have never known PP and Rolex other than as a watch. IMHO the only mix (Watch&Jewelry&Fashion) product high-end brand is Cartier and Bvlgari and maybe Hermes.

I only like few PP regardless

 By: Gelato Monster : April 18th, 2020-08:03
of the name on the dial😁. I like even fewer Rolex. Anyway. This is just my personal preference. Regardless of my feeling the Watch above is honestly amazing and perfect in every aspect, ( case design, dial, movement etc) .

so let me ask a "what if" question:

 By: penfriend : April 18th, 2020-09:19
Richemont or LVMH aquires let's say PP and they decide to subsidize it and imprint another brand name on the watches. will they still have the demand as before? nothing has changed except the branding. i am aware of the importance of branding and fall for...

Honestly

😁. I totally agree with you people have so many variable underlying (Taste, Priorities, Budget) thus decision to buy Personally I try to listen to my passion as I look each watch design of case, display of dial, finishing of dial, movement complication, m...

i understand...i've this trouble with Cartier (even i've a Crash) and Hermes...

 By: mahesh : April 18th, 2020-11:02
some of the novelties of Hermes are beautiful but i've a hesitation towards them purely because I see Hermes at their best with Leather products ! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Best, mahesh.,
