and decided to take a trip to the Montblanc boutique in London in search of this watch. I was hoping in a way that it would be a disappointment but unfortunately, it exceeded all my expectations and that was just the dial and how well it fitted my wrist. Sorry for the poor lighting or perhaps I should say strong lighting. To address some of the comments about the number 6 that seems partially hidden, Montblanc could have made the watch in 40mm instead of 39mm and the 6 would have survived in its entirety. But I am so glad that they made it in 39mm. In fact, looking at the movement size, 38mm would have been possible and desirable but the 6 would have had to go! smile The selling point of this watch is the magnificent movement which in my opinion is one of the best finished manual winding movements for a 3 handed watch, not just under USD20k but under USD40k. With a loop, one can admire the black hand polished beveled edges, the chamfered edges of the movement plates, the circular graining, the swan neck and racket adjustment system and also the devil's tail. And all this is put together by one watchmaker! Yes, I agree with Nico that the 16.29 chronograph was priced only slightly higher than this watch but in its defence, I will say that this watch at 39mm is arguably more reliable, wearable and is easier to maintain in the long run due to its relatively simpler movement. Also, I think if the 16.29 movement chronograph was sold today it would be priced quite a bit more than when it was released 3 to 4 years ago. While there have been many reiterations of the 16.29 chronograph, this watch will only be made in 38 pieces because that was all the movements they had discovered so it will be relatively pretty rare compared to a Montblanc bearing either the 16.29 or 13.21 movement. Back to my observation, I personally am very much into Pateks and watches from independents but this offering by Montblanc is actually a compelling proposition. Yes it is expensive for a Montblanc but imagine this level of finishing on a Patek and the price would easily be double making this Montblanc quite good value. Yes it may not appreciate in value the way a Patek will but I think this watch is a keeper as its discreet dial with the  useful lume on the arabic numerals, dots and hands is complemented by a movement that if anything, is terribly under rated.

Insane price tag and relative value is low.

I'd stop at 8K Euros...

What other watches are there in this category that are better value?

The Hentschel, maybe? [nt]

That is a tough comparison with the steel LE100 blue mono pusher

To my mind that watch was priced much too low at 24.000 Euros. And in case that would be the benchmark, any other offering of the brand must be too expensive - just think of the green LE100 chronograph at 28.000 Euro which also sold out within one year.

Has a lot in common with the Blancpain 7002:

Namely, a basic/respectable old school handwind movement, shaped and decorated to a much higher standard than it usually is, cased in an excellent SS case, with high quality dial and hands. It's a really appealing combination. And this movement is definit...

What keeps you from purchasing it?

The sale of my flat

which is scheduled to take place on 7 Feb! Hopefully, it will still be available then as it is the only piece in the UK. I have bought too many watches lately but this one is quite gorgeous (at least that is my excuse!! )

I bought the Heritage Salmon 3 hander back at MBs Goodwood stand having seen the Heritage Pulsograph as well. Think this small seconds with Minerva movement at 39mm makes a really interesting proposition. LE, 39mm with that gorgeous movement and a little ...
