With time passing, what do you think of the Jaeger Lecoultre Master Control Chronograph Calendar?

Apr 30, 2021,10:56 AM

Issued in 2020, this Master Control Chronograph Calendar was quite positively welcomed.

And rightly so, as it is a very elegant and classic watch we have here, with its new case.

What do you think, one year after its release?

I am still positively impressed by this one, just waiting to see if Jaeger Lecoultre will issue it with a black dial, to add some strength to its natural elegance.

You?

Best,

Nicolas

Very handsome watch

But handling the real thing left me not so impressed for some reason

Coldness?

 By: amanico : April 30th, 2021-15:41

I like the dial layout and the overall feel of the watch but I still find the result a bit boring on the dial side, mostly because of the silver on with accent with the hands and marker which IMO...

first does not provide good legibility and second removes some of the character the dial could/should have. Your idea of a black dial would enhance these two shortfall for sure

This is my feeling too

I was initially excited because I like the idea and the basic arrangement, like, it's exactly the kind of watch I want to see from JLC's Master line. But it's just not lighting my fire. Like you both, I'd be interested in seeing what a black dial might do...

Yes!

And with a black dial?

 By: amanico : April 30th, 2021-15:42

It is very desireable

The complications combination makes a lot of sense: it is a good mix of vintage traditions and a modern reinterpretation. The negatives? Size and price...

I had to look it up, it says 40mm but it looks bigger (especially the dial) and definitely is thick. I do wonder, could they have made this as a 36-37mm watch?

Another vote for a black dial!

Quite frankly,I love this watch.I could see it the other day at my AD and basically liked everything about it : the case, the movement, the proportions. Certainly one of the very best JLC offerings from the past years....and for once pretty correctly priced...

I've owned the MUT Moon for nearly a decade...

And I always find it interesting to hear initial impressions of the master control line. I, too, similarly felt that my JLC was cold when I first purchased it. The silver dial / markers are exceedingly restrained; the dial, while proportioned exceedingly ...

Well, and now, what about that???

...

Ok now you got me excited!

;)

Classic and clean. Works for me.

 By: MichaelC : April 30th, 2021-12:54
Definitely looks like a piece that was made years before 2020. Not a bad quality at all. I would like to see one live.

Fine, class, and bland

JLC has a problem with making sterile, clinical dials on white metal watches. This one is no exception.

 By: vitalsigns : April 30th, 2021-13:41
That's one thing i would change. I also would much prefer a 12-hour chronograph counter--so much more functional, although this would forego a running seconds hand. That said, it's a great combination of functions in a nice form-factor. Reasonable size. R...

I think it's awesome, except...

I would like to see it on a dark blue Nova Nappa strap. -Dean

It is a nice effort.

But the dial leaves me cold. The teeny font size on the registers, the wasted opportunity in balancing the indices and register and the lack of feeling of any depth or structure all result in a watch with no emotion. I saw it in person and as much as I wa...

I love your pictures. Every time you post a watch I think ''how did I miss this one'' or ''wish I could have gotten it back then'' and/but this one is actually still available. In your pictures it looks smaller than it actual seems to be. Wish it was 36mm...

Merci, PalmSprings.

it is beautiful. for me it is not asynchronous enough

 By: Gelato Monster : April 30th, 2021-21:46
thus I prefer MUT Perpetual Steel ( the moon placement, the sector month). Lets see what if they are both in black

IMHO it is cleaner with less colour yet unique dial plus 8 days

I believe you have posted about before

Yes... Here you are...

 By: amanico : May 1st, 2021-07:23
...

which one do you prefer?

 By: Gelato Monster : May 1st, 2021-08:30
MUT Perpetual Steel or this?

Thank you

 By: Gelato Monster : May 1st, 2021-08:46

You?

 By: amanico : May 1st, 2021-08:51

8 days for sure

This one was a killer...

yours is another classes lol

 By: Gelato Monster : May 1st, 2021-10:30

Yes a true marvel.

 By: amanico : May 5th, 2021-20:33

True.

 By: amanico : May 1st, 2021-15:00

To be honest

I like the function and the price ... would install a nice croc strap on it and rock it . Specially midnight blue croc ... Iam a sucker for rectangular pushers hence I like it

Same here.

I do think the strap JLC has chosen to include and show off in the marketing posts let the watch down. The case, dial and hands are lovely.... and even more so on a different strap like you suggested.
