Where’s Quality Control?

Nov 24, 2020,00:03 AM

I’m going to start off by saying JLC is, by far, my favourite brand and this post is in no way meant to discredit or diminish the brands achievements and Horological standing.

However, upon inspecting a brand new Burgundy Reverso I found an unacceptably large amount of smudges and scratches on the hands, indices and a few scratches on the dial!

I fail to understand how such a sloppy job can even be caused by a watchmaker, let alone pass QC! And before anyone says “through away the loupe”, the hands are visible without using a loupe.

Now hopefully this will be taken care of by JLC!

If the watch is brand new.

Wow. Dreadful

I am sure this issue is more common than we think.

I hope whoever caused this is made aware of their mistake so they can pay attention next are ok as long as correct them and improve.

Again

I hope u wil be heard by JLC. Again i see somebody post a JLC brand new with quality problems. On an other forum somebody post his new Polaris or Memovox, don’t know anymore which of the two. There was something with the date window. On the edge a hair sc...

no, they don't.

but individual differences make each watch different and unique- this is acceptable imo to a certain extent.

When I was buying my brand new Reverso

 By: robsallnow : November 24th, 2020-07:10
I was so distracted by the search for an example without a scratched case that I didn't give the dial much thought other than to check for a known issue with the alignment of the minute track on the front dial

This is not a new watch

Brand new, sealed from the boutique.

WOW 😳🤬😡🤐

You don’t need a loupe.

 By: TheWindingStem : November 24th, 2020-09:32
You can see it with the naked eye.

Ouch!!!

 By: K-Lo : November 24th, 2020-11:25

Was this bought through a JLC AD?

 By: watchme : November 24th, 2020-08:18
It looks refurbished. -Dean

it's bad news, but

Jaeger Le-Coultre is very careful in handling both dials and hands, they use soft wood tip pliers to manipulate the hands, as well as special plasticine to hold them, this prevents them from being scratched or marked, unlike when they are use metal tweeze...

Thank you for your input!

I believe this is certainly an anomaly and not a standard of JLC.

Hmm, I'm reconsidering my Christmas present to myself!

 By: patrick_y : November 24th, 2020-09:46
It's so hard to buy something for oneself this holiday season... First everything is closed due to COVID. Second, who wants to try on a watch at a store that other people have tried on? Now the risk of getting a "bad example" is the final kicker!

Dont.

I am sorry if my post was read as a warning - JLC is by far one of the best manufactures today, with amazing people in every department. My example here is meant to bring awareness to both, consumers and the brand. I would not hesitate for a second to rec...

Well, I was considering this piece or the blue piece...

I just dislike buying toys and then later become disappointed. If you're buying something purely to make yourself happy, why let yourself get disappointed later?

just like marriage lol

 By: TheWindingStem : November 24th, 2020-10:53
in all seriousness though, I owned the blue and it was fine, no issues! obviously minor issues will always exist and what I have here today is an extreme example. Also, as someone who owned the blue, I can definitely say go with the burgundy! an entirely ...

Seems like I'm going to do four of them... It'll be like an Andy Warhol color gamut painting!

Reverso in blue dial, red dial, silver dial, and black dial! I know there's a green dial that was offered in some markets!

That's right!

 By: patrick_y : November 26th, 2020-16:17
I was almost certain it was London Edition but I wasn't certain if they didn't make a green version for the Middle East. So I just didn't want to say anything I wasn't 100% certain. Thank you for chiming in with your expertise!

Your loupe is too strong

 By: Clavi : November 24th, 2020-10:04
The max you zoom in, the more you will find 'flaws'. I just think you went too deep in magnification. Unless these are 100% machine made, you must accept some 'flaws' here and there. AFAIAK, it looks acceptable, especially the 'scratch' on the dial

I disagree.

 By: TheWindingStem : November 24th, 2020-10:51
first, i spotted these with my naked eyes, upon using a loupe I saw the extent of it. the loupe I use is a standard 3x that every manufacture QC use to check their watches. Its industry standard that no flaws be visible at 3x.I obviously cropped this imag...

Can you post a wristshot ?

 By: Clavi : November 24th, 2020-10:07
A wristshot, even from 20cm far ? I think any watch even at this level will show some degree of 'flaws' when you zoom in at X20...

Sorry to hear that this happened! I hope they'll fix it.
