Was 2019 a good year for Jaeger Lecoultre?

 By: amanico : August 22nd, 2020-00:53
Three points. 1/ Jaeger Lecoultre invested the high horology segment in a brilliant way: 2 new movements, the Cal 184 ( Gyrotourbillon Five ) and Cal 950 ( MGT Minute Repeater Perpetual ) and used the Cal 946 in the MGT Tourbillon Celeste, an evolution of...

Exactly Nico

Some new mid-tier pieces too will be good. Sad that they discontinued the Geophysic line-up and also did not further the usage of the gyrolab balance so far. You know when they say, when one is at the peak, the only way is to stay there, or go down.

High +1

Of course we saw amazing and desirable realizations. I fell that all current watches are surfing on the developments launched by Mr JL. Since then we have seen minor improvements, aesthetic rearrangements and continuations of defined programs. I fully agr...

Of course! [nt]

Yes, Yes Yes, This one, That Extreme Lab is a cracking piece

 By: PoyFR : August 22nd, 2020-08:50
That would certainly be a big hit if they now they would produce it for a larger public.

May JLC listen to us. [nt]

 By: amanico : August 22nd, 2020-08:59

I pray they will

Yours truly really disillusioned about Panerai, GS (though they are really going upstream and applaudable). JLC is a darling brand and I hope Jaguars will remain Jaguars, and Volvos will remain Volvos but it seems even the watch industry has it’s identity...

Let's keep the faith. [nt]

Yes, it's about Industries, less and less

humans. More and more digital machines and of course the results are new old ones new and loss of identities, when it is different we know we will only very rarely be able to afford it. On the other hand, the prices of all mass productions are coated with...

Nico, thanks for this post.

I feel completely the same. The pieces made by JLC that - really - make my heart beat faster are all incredibly expensive and so out of my reach . Even if I could afford a special watch, it would exceed my self-imposed limits. Because for me, beyond a cer...

Ding-Dong 😊

 By: MTR : August 22nd, 2020-12:27
You may and are welcome! 😁

Thanks for sharing Nico - and I concur. JLC has been playing it way too safe with its current line-up. Most of the Polaris range is too bland, the master control watches

lack the detailed finishing that I would like to see in the 10k range (compare that to a GO panoreserve for example), and the Reverso while cool and iconic is too niche and cannot carry the brand on its own. Even the new calendar chrono I am no longer sur...

You have some good points, Chet. But isn't the Panoreserve a bit higher than let's say the MUT RDM? The Reverso cannot / shouldn't sum up the brand, I agree.

 By: amanico : August 22nd, 2020-05:24
I am really looking forward to seeing some thrilling offers in the " affordable "range... Best, and thanks for your answer. Nicolas

Thanks, Ted. [nt]

 By: K-Lo : August 22nd, 2020-05:30
Like these resellers know this watch will be a future classic, I had the chance to get this when I was in NYC last year, my wife bullied me out of it. Saying it was a women's watch, I thought it was elegant and fit me nice. Sometimes, you have to take you...

I love JLC

 By: MiguelFlash : August 22nd, 2020-05:44
But it does seem as they have become very conservative in their affordable watch lineup as others have noted. They need to step it up and introduce some exciting offerings and rely less on tributes to past references. Still, I love the Reverso!

1 to practically all you said.. for me

 By: hs111 : August 22nd, 2020-07:05
.. have too much on their price tags. And on the other hand their higher end watches are definitely way over my budget, some of them inaccessibly so. And sometimes other brands offer a better finish but still already on some middle tiered models. I do bel...

JLC makes very good value of mid-tier watches. Especially the reversos

 By: hoseachandra : August 22nd, 2020-08:21
The case shape and dials also improving. What they need is practical innovation like longer power reserve (done on some calibers), more anti-magnetic solutions, etc. And I hope they continue the master compressor line and geophysic line, with new calibers...

One more thing : I wish they would improve the memovox

 By: hoseachandra : August 22nd, 2020-08:32
With new features like an on/off mechanism to start/stop alarm at any time, and an alarm power reserve. If Tudor can do it, JLC has more in-house know-how to do it also IMHO

Could the real issue be...Richemont?

 By: jlux : August 22nd, 2020-09:13
I do share all of the comments made by other forum members. I do however believe that all this is due to the way how Richemont has started to run its business since a few years. We have ever changing CEO's,many times from other branches of the company,for...

I guess the question is how independant these various watch brands can be within a group like Richemont.

 By: jlux : August 22nd, 2020-10:02
I could not name a lot of the current CEO's from any brand of their watch probably none of these will still be in their current job in 2-3 years from now! With this we do not really know what to expect from a brand ,which is dear to us like JLC, in the c...

Thanks, Jurry. [nt]

That perpetual calendar with that blue guilloche dial a lot Bit expensive but beautiful

Agreed

 By: Jurry : August 22nd, 2020-13:39
But I was referring to a more reasonable price level haha.

It seems so. ;) [nt]

 By: amanico : August 22nd, 2020-14:22

Agree with many of the sentiments already posted. Perhaps my saddest realization is I went to the boutique 3-4 times in 2019 and didn't try on anything :(

 By: Fastwong : August 22nd, 2020-14:48
Granted 3 of 4 visits were for service issues but still, any visit is an opportunity to get some IRL wrist time with watches and there was nothing I wanted to try on. The 6-7 figure ultra high horology releases are exciting in theory but in reality they w...

Was 2019 a good year for JLC?

 By: Ano Nuevo : August 22nd, 2020-16:42
Yes.... If you like blue. Yes.... If you like blue AND have a fat wallet. Otherwise... “Notso hotso,” to quote Preston Sturges. How many years now have we had the JLC forum filled with hopeful comments from multiple contributors —“I hope we see something ...

Among all your points, there is one which I focused on... The Geophysic... I love the Cal 770 / 772, a lot. It is always a pleasure to see a new movement coming, and the true second was an original and daring path.

 By: amanico : August 23rd, 2020-00:27
Moreover, it is nicely decorated. I really regret JLC discontinued the Geophysic Line. There was much more to see and explore. Let's see what they'll do with the Polaris. But there was some place for the Deep Sea and Geophysic! Best, my friend.

I concur

 By: Cookies : August 23rd, 2020-03:28
The calibre 770/772 are excellent mechanisms. It is profound and deep, and it takes a while to digest what is in the movement. I was sad when they discontinued the Geophysic line. To me, that collection is as exciting as the Reverso, but it just needed th...

I predict

 By: Cookies : August 23rd, 2020-03:36
If they relaunched the Geophysic True Second with a flyback chrono function, it could cause a few heart attacks. Nevermind, a few years of hiccups is alright for JLC, they will bounce back once a revolutionary CEO takes footing. For now I will just wait a...

I held it in the flesh

 By: Cookies : August 23rd, 2020-03:41
It was hard to let go. I couldn’t afford it yet, but one day maybe 10 years from now, it will come. And I will still be in love with it.

This sums up how I feel about the current state of affairs at JLC. Little longterm vision, no watch that screams JLC but the niche Reverso line and frankly the

new Master line is playing it safe again. They don’t appeal to a younger audience either. They really need so start turning things around quickly or they’ll be just another IWC or Omega.

We can look at it from both sides really...

 By: holdemchamp1225 : August 24th, 2020-08:15
On one side, 2019 was a great year for JLC if you consider watchmaking and "haute horlogerie." JLC got to flex their skill and competence with uber high-end pieces. The problem was the mid-tier or more accessible models for the masses. As stated already b...
