Reverso came first - but did not have the funds.
Jan 04, 2020,13:04 PM
I grew up with a father who wore a Polaris and a Memovox E873. That made me aware of the brand.
Living in Brussels, Belgium in 1992~1993, there was a watch dealer that exhibited the Reverso models in steel and steel/gold on the Place du Grand Sablon. Had to stop there every time I came close.
The first one I bought with my own money was - of course - the Master Compressor Memovox. Still have it!
From there it was all downhill. I own quite a few JLCs by now.

I got to see and handle first-hand the entire line. That was a real eye-opener! I was 21 years old, so all I could afford to buy at that time was this one. It cost me all of $75.00 US. They gave me the bracelet for free. I still have it and it still runs ...

...a slightly different watch : the Master Compressor Geographique in steel. Just loved this original design created by Magali Métrailler : a watch with character!
That's a beauty

Perhaps a little more charming than the most current iteration of the Master Control

For me it was getting a simple Master Control grand taille; my first serious watch besides a 1970 Speedmaster I bought when I was 18. Was around 30 when I got the JLC and it marked not only a change towards a more mature style of watch but also establishe...
Have been wondering about that

For some time I lusted after an ultra thin 34mm cal 849 - could be a nice option as well. For the last few years I had a one piece per brand rule, but my last two aquisitions have both been Cartiers so that rule is out of the window. JLC is my first and s...

This one Advertising does work, saw an advert for a Reverso after I'd bought my first mechanical watch for myself ( my Oris Big Crown, which I still have) & thought it looked good & if it's around X I'll have one. Unfortunately it was a rather large multi...

I saw the Patek 5110 first, but at the time could not justify the cost. Something I later corrected.

Like most of us, the models that called my attention back in the 90's were the Master Geographic, the Master Reserve de Marche, and I really liked the 37 mm, manual winding Memovox (Ref: 144.8.94.S) what a nice watch, I almost bought it a couple of times....
