Jaeger Lecoultre Master Grande Tradition Minute Repeater Van Gogh " Starry Night on the Rhone ".

There are many good things to say about the MGT Minute Repeater Van Gogh " Starry Night on the Rhone ".

First of all, you have a very nice case, with the Master Grande Tradition, which has the good taste to be 39 mm big, and not too thick ( 12, 2 mm high ). Perfect for my taste.

Then, a superb dial, in enamel. Of course it is a matter of taste, and I am more fan of simple enamel dials, but we can't deny the talent of the Master Enameler behind this dial.

Another primordial point, this Minute Repeater sounds exquisitely. At least the three I could hear since its introduction, two or three years ago. Loud enough, and most importantly, with a rich tone.

Now, there is a thing I totally dislike, the idea of having an automatic movement which is not exceptional, at the contrary of the Hybris Mechanica 11 which is a pure feast.

Here, the Cal 942 doesn't receive any special decoration, nor finishings... And THAT is something I dislike. Ìn a watch of this level, or you find a very nice automatic movement, or you go manual.

That is something Jaeger Lecoultre should avoid. A Minute Repeater still is an extraordinary and exclusive complication which should be treated accordingly, in my opinion.

Best,

Nicolas

I was in heaven until I saw the backside. The dial, the case, the size and above all the complication are just perfect but then the caliber devaluates this very complete package.

I agree with all your points both good and bad but....

....ultimately that is a beautiful watch. I’d almost cut off one of my ears to own that. Thanks for showing it. Regards Kev.

I think I would only sacrifice an ear lobe for this piece :-)

To me it sims that they wanted to emphasize the enamel work not the movement... Automatic minute repeater it’s a no-no for me as well , I prefer manual all day long , somehow the automatic cheapens the watch in my opinion. But with all this faults I would...

Why did they do that???

Was it to keep costs down so the price point is more affordable?

Perfect enamel but

When I had lent them the painting to copy in enamel, I had suggested to them to edit it manually but they did not follow me... LOL

Good one, amico. [nt]

SONNERIE

 By: golden hands : April 10th, 2019-07:02
THIS WATCH IS NOT JUST A MINUTE REPEATER BY OPERATING THE SLIDE -THE LABEL ON THE DIAL SAYS ITS A SONNERIE (GRAND OR PETITE DOES NOT SAY) . THE MOVEMENT SHOULD BE A MANUAL WIND BUT- HA HO,THE WONDER IS WHAT IS UNDER THE DIAL THAT YOU CANNOT SEE AND IS THE...

Thanks, Amico. [nt]

Well, let me "chime" in...

While the movement, decoration-wise, doesn't do much for ANY of us, it does serve a VERY GOOD purpose: SINCE it's a SONNERIE, the automatic winding will keep it chiming the time every hour, without the owner having to take it off the wrist to wind it back...

Beautiful watch.

Superb dial. I would change a few things though, make it white gold and remove the Sonnerie plaque and it will look even better to me. Thanks for sharing. Vte

That enamel dial with Van Gogh's "Starry Night" is simply breath-taking...

I agree that the automatic movement seems out of place and would prefer an 8 or 10 day movement like in the MMR or MGTMR if the Sonnerie drains alot of the mainspring power. Maybe having a Duometre dual wing type movement would also work since one barrel ...

Is this one of a kind? The talent and artistry is unbelievable

If done by hand then this is truly one of a kind and no two are alike

SONNERIE PART TWO

 By: golden hands : April 11th, 2019-04:55
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF -SONNERIE-GRAND OR PETITE-WHICH ARE EN PASSANT ,WHICH THEY STRIKE 2 GONGS AT WILL AND NOT AS A MINUTE REPEATER ON SONNERIE PLAQUE WOULD NEED TO BE PRESENT TO AN OBSERVER TO SHOW THAT IT IS A QUALITY ABOVE A MINUTE REPEATER IF THE W...

Most of the time, i read posts on my phones. However, for some like this one, I prefer waiting until I a m with my big screen computer!!
