Jaeger Lecoultre Geophysic E 168. A summer series. Part 2: Geophysic E 168 Rose Gold, a piece of history.

Jul 27, 2020,00:16 AM

Here is one I had the pleasure to see some weeks ago. A nice Geophysic E 168 in rose gold, in superb condition, with its original hands ( yes, Dauphine hands are correct for that reference, too ) and its plexy with the luminous dots still here, and... its invoice!

Sold in 1960 to the Captain Pharmacist André, in Djibouti, for 36, 000 Djibouti Francs.

For the reminder, the Geophysic was issued in 1958 and discontinued in 1961. A few pieces were made in rose gold ( a guess estimate would lead me to think around 100 pieces ).

None of the Jaeger Lecoultre Geophysics were issued for Armies. It is not a military watch, but it is funny and interesting to see that a Captain from the French Army decided to buy one, and in rose gold!

The other interesting detail is that the Captain came back to France with his watch in March 1992, as this document attests it.

32 years... If only this watch could talk! It would have many stories to tell!

Best,

Nicolas

I love it when we can see details of a watch and owner’s history from the documents. Regards Kev.

The last sentence is truly on point.

Love it when an old watch has papers. Why has rhis model been discontinued so fast?

Thank you! [nt]

I suppose the document is a copy of the receipt of purchase? What was the price when it sold originally? What is the purple stamp with the hand written year 1992? All these details are fascinating. Hope to hear more. Best Christian

Ok thank you! Too difficult to calculate

Do you have any idea what the retail price was in France when it came out? Just think it would be fun to know, compared to today’s value.

😲🥺 [nt]

Judging by the condition after all those years....

If it could talk, it would say: " Day 6,221 : The sock drawer is crowded today. Grey is still missing his match. But stripe's showed up again. I'm glad for her. They seem so happy".

Nicely put! [nt]

Very nice Nico! Maybe it is still priced at 36000 (euros) ? :)

The stamp certifying the document by the local mayor is a surprise! I did not know they could do that. Did you enjoyed some oysters ? Best, E.

Speechless
