Some good points, indeed.

As for the Duometre, a little bird tells me that this is a work in progress. A new case design, some new complications...
I totally agree about the Geophysic ( and Deep Sea Alarm ) lines. They need to be reintroduced it the catalogue, with some friendly / cool / innovative complications.
We also need something exciting in the 15 / 30 ( or 20 / 40 ) K euros segment. Extreme Lab 3?
More generally, no need for LEs... More need for exciting and cool watches. Less need for yearly 1, 000, 000 Euros watches. Once each three or four years is good, to showcase the talent from the brand, but not every year. It dilutes to " exceptional ".
Go, JLC, go!
And as a personal note, a Duometre à Rattrapante with a Tantalum case would be my dream!
Best,
Nicolas

How is JLC doing?

 By: andrea~ : August 4th, 2022-19:12
Fellow enthusiasts, I write this post in an attempt to start a discussion on the state of JLC as a brand, mainly about its creativity, current catalog, predictions and personal desires regarding future releases. I personally believe that a few things need...

Yes they need some new blood

 By: Flanker : August 4th, 2022-19:28
Personally I yearn for their diving chronos. I am sure Nico would have things to say about this subject.

Duometre...

 By: patrick_y : August 4th, 2022-19:36
Duometre is definitely a special piece... When we visited the factory, four of our members were wearing Duometres. Maybe five?

Indeed!

 By: patrick_y : August 4th, 2022-21:40

4. ;)

 By: amanico : August 4th, 2022-20:15

If we can save some extra money on petrol...

 By: patrick_y : August 4th, 2022-21:43
...maybe we can feel a bit wealthier - enough to buy another watch? Seriously, I was spending a lot of money on petrol back in the day. Since I had a car that only consumed the premium gas and would require 17 liters per 100 km! That car consumed so much ...

I've got a tire bill coming and brake bills soon...

 By: patrick_y : August 4th, 2022-22:00
The brakes are gigantic, so the rotors will not be inexpensive. Thankfully, the rotors aren't the multi-piece type that cost an arm and a leg. The pads are also expensive. Each caliper has 8 pistons and four small pads! Why didn't they just use six piston...

LOL. Excellent one. ;)

 By: amanico : August 5th, 2022-17:15

You are mad! :))))

 By: amanico : August 5th, 2022-19:16

Even more than normal?

 By: patrick_y : August 5th, 2022-19:26

Hehehe... Yes! ;)

 By: amanico : August 5th, 2022-21:13

OUCH!

 By: amanico : August 5th, 2022-15:06

What an amazing group! And not to forget, a couple of our members even brought minute repeaters with them!

 By: patrick_y : August 4th, 2022-21:40
What an amazing group! Let's have another round of Macallan!

Agreed, we need some more Duometre

 By: takman : August 4th, 2022-19:37
I’d love to see one in 40mm or less and a bit thinner. Regarding the current catalogue, I also agree that it could be more exciting and more accessible whether by price or less limited editions. My first Swiss watch was an ultra thin Reverso back in 2011 ...

I feel like they reserve some of the most exciting dials for the limited editions...

 By: andrea~ : August 4th, 2022-19:52
Just look at the Master Control Calendar: the blue dial limited edition makes the watch way more visually catching. It's just a color change, but since the movement is already great, it doesn't take much to take a design to the next level! I adore this ve...

That's true...

 By: andrea~ : August 4th, 2022-20:38
I usually buy new but for such a beauty I'm ok with getting one used

That sounds promising - Only a special Boutique Edition ?

 By: hs111 : August 5th, 2022-09:42
.. Or does one need direct personal contacts into JLC and/or might an addt’l Richemont help (?) ! I guess, it might be time to ask for Dr Mamadu’s opinion & help !.. 😉😉

Thx so much to you & Dr Mamadu !!.. In fact I already contacted the Boutique, in my hometown, based also on your suggestion.. And..

 By: hs111 : August 5th, 2022-16:44
..believe it or not, there will be something to be happy about for me in the very near future !.. PS: And WHY a chicken’s (!?) leg ? - Did I miss something here ?

Agreed....

 By: enjoythemusic : August 4th, 2022-19:53
I want to love the new releases, but..... How has reliability been and service times?

I can't answer this question

 By: andrea~ : August 4th, 2022-19:58
I've bought my first JLC just a few months ago so I hopefully won't need to deal with servicing for a while ...

Thanks!

 By: andrea~ : August 4th, 2022-20:37
I'll be enjoying it a lot once I get back from my summer vacations!

I bought the very same model a few months ago as well.

 By: RabidManatee : August 4th, 2022-22:26
Also my first JLC, and I really like it. It would be nice if the movement hacked, but oh well. I had the chance to try some of JLC’s new offerings when I purchased my Reverso. Yet none of them spoke to me. To me, the designs lacked the “authenticity” of m...

I wish Longines’ current/recent leadership can be seconded to JLC for 2-5 years!

 By: Lankysudanese : August 4th, 2022-20:08
They’d return JLC to its glory days

The brand just needs a tiny push to get to where it should be

 By: andrea~ : August 4th, 2022-20:40
Many watches they currently make are appealing, but not as appealing as some of the crazy stuff that came out of the 2000s

Don’t forget IWC.

 By: RabidManatee : August 4th, 2022-22:30

Them too

 By: Cookies : August 5th, 2022-03:03

+1

 By: Cookies : August 5th, 2022-03:03
Can u imagine how desperate times have become that a certain bronze limited edition has to be sold on basis of “dining with the CEO”? I was thinking of this yesterday and found it to be highly consistent with a megalomaniac CEO more concerned about sellin...

That's true

 By: andrea~ : August 5th, 2022-08:16
JLC may have been mismanaged, but nothing compares to the terrible decisions IWC and Panerai made

Some good points, indeed.

Completely agree!

 By: andrea~ : August 4th, 2022-20:34
I'm extremely excited to see some developments in the duometre line. Seeing more stuff in the 15-30k range would be perfect to complete their offering. I absolutely adore the brand, and the insane pieces like last year's Reverso Hybris Mechanica are proof...

These lines would make the perfect one brand collection.

 By: Lankysudanese : August 4th, 2022-20:42
- Duometre in stainless steel and platinum offerings - Extreme lab 3 but with smaller case and no curved caseback (for us small wristed folk) - reverso revamp to bring it back to all its glory: more hand-finishing and more elaborate movements What else???...

Good ideas

 By: andrea~ : August 4th, 2022-20:52
As for the extreme lab 3, I don't think we're going to see it in the near future, unfortunately. It seems like the brand is going in a different direction. More Grand Taille Reversos (or the modern medium size) could be a good addition. When it comes to f...

+1 on all you said & double + for the Duomêtre à Rattrapante with the Tantalum case !!.. I’ll have my fingers crossed ! 😉😊

 By: hs111 : August 5th, 2022-08:17
BTW: Hopefully someone at LGM is hearing you/us ! Hmmhh.. Another Duomètre!.. Can’t wait.. 😉😉

Completey agree

 By: andrea~ : August 7th, 2022-20:37
I'd rather have a duometre

Good choice. ;)

 By: amanico : August 7th, 2022-21:22

It could be a great addition

 By: andrea~ : August 4th, 2022-20:36
But they would need to be smaller to appeal to the current market. No more 46mm pieces please.

I agree, I think the oversize watch craze has

 By: Thomas_3 : August 4th, 2022-21:53
seen better days, I'm perfectly content with my DJ or a bit larger Submariner. What looks like a clock on the wrist never appealed to me.

exactly

I feel like JLC's potential has been squandered

 By: JoshTheCanadian : August 4th, 2022-21:17
Most brands would be jealous of JLC's history and capabilities. However, JLC, like IWC, just isn't living up to its potential. Richemont feels like it is asleep at the wheel. That said, I love the revisions to the JLC Calendar and the JLC MUT Moon - parti...

I wouldn't say squandered

 By: andrea~ : August 4th, 2022-21:24
More like suppressed. The Maison still does some amazing stuff, they suffer from a few uninspired designs though.

Suppressed is a better word. I agree.

 By: JoshTheCanadian : August 4th, 2022-21:33
My frustration, perhaps, is palpable. The JLC MUT Moon was my first luxury watch, and I feel that the JLC I knew then is not the JLC that exists now. Pieces of it exist, yes. But I feel like there was so much more momentum behind JLC at that prior point.

I agree

 By: andrea~ : August 4th, 2022-21:54
JLC has HUGE potential, so it's reasonable to hold them to a high standard. I'm optimistic. I'm sure the future holds some great surprises from the brand.

at least JLC still has 'it' in the technical department....

 By: j.jota : August 5th, 2022-00:30
the degradation of IWC over the last 25 years is nothing short of criminal. Günter Blümlein built a solid, sober foundation that has been methodically cheapened at every opportunity for one more 'special' edition

JLC lacks an identity (imho)

 By: nafetS : August 4th, 2022-21:35
It seems like they want to hunt done every possible customer with every possible type of watch, but this causes them to do nothing right. And because it doesn‘t work. they seem to change strategy every few years, disconnecting existing customers, while no...

Diversity doesn‘t mean „everything“ and it doesn‘t mean doing a little bit here and a little bit there and then something completely different.

 By: nafetS : August 4th, 2022-22:06
Patek does diversity right, because while having a lot of different watches and changes in their line up, they still have a solid customer strategy behind it and there‘s even a strategy behind their diversity. Once you know how Patek releases work, you ca...

I agree with a few of your points regarding JLC, but...

 By: j.jota : August 4th, 2022-23:12
you explain how these monstrosities currently offered by Patek fit within their 'DNA'.... schizophrenia I tell you! (all photos credited to ) Certainly nothing JLC has issued in the last decade is as bizarre as some of these pieces ...

I tend to agree with this

 By: andrea~ : August 4th, 2022-23:19
Patek is a brand worthy of respect, but lately it hasn't really appealed to me too much except for a few pieces like the 5236p. Patek gets my respect, but JLC gets my love.

LOL!!!

 By: amanico : August 5th, 2022-15:08

I don't think it's a lack of identity

 By: andrea~ : August 4th, 2022-21:58
I believe it has to do with leaning into their identity more. A memovox is pure JLC for example, but the silver dial is a bit boring, so a simple dial change would make the watch a lot more appealing. Other than that, the brand is less experimental than b...

I feel sad for the state of this brand

 By: Cookies : August 5th, 2022-03:13
I followed them like a fanboy for the longest time. Attended many events by them to discover their creations. To me JLC was about “creations from the maison”. Exciting new technical feats and novel releases. And then, there was a change and things went st...

That's true

 By: andrea~ : August 5th, 2022-08:21
JLC needs more watches that appeal to people who seek innovation and cool technology implemented in watchmaking.

Quite right!

 By: Esharp : August 5th, 2022-07:42
Thanks for starting this thread - and I agree with most everyone here. JLC does not today have the timelessness in its products that I associate with the Blumlein era. Today it feels like (expensive) fashion; just like the other Richemont brands - and I u...

The most frustrating aspect is how easy it would be to turn the brand around.

 By: andrea~ : August 5th, 2022-08:26
Just a few adjustments like bringing the geophysic line back, stopping the endless flow of limited editions and adding some more technically interesting pieces to the catalog, they don't even have to be new, even upgrades of past models would be fine.

And silicon hair springs too

 By: Cookies : August 5th, 2022-17:00
Antimagnetic pieces are de-rigueur in this 2022 year.

I believe they are using silicon escapements in the newer pieces.

 By: andrea~ : August 5th, 2022-17:06
The hair spring is still metallic though.

I confirm.

 By: amanico : August 5th, 2022-17:11

They still make cool timepieces, particularly in the Reverso and Atmos lines

By: Strictly Vintage Watches : August 5th, 2022-11:15
While perhaps not as "practical", the Atmos clocks are in my opinion are among the best values in haute horology clocks when looking at the big brands. The designs are very intriguing and could be really special to own. Probably my favorite part when ente...

Agree.

 By: andrea~ : August 5th, 2022-11:37
The brand is still good. Not perfect, but not nearly as bad as some people say.

I’ll give them props for introducing the 8 year warranty.

 By: sludgeriff : August 5th, 2022-20:51
Mechanical watches are temperamental little bastards. I’ve had many warranty claims over the years. A big warranty makes for a more satisfying buying experience.
