Asking for a bit of advice...

Jan 26, 2020,03:44 AM

Before having a great lunch with Nico and Mahesh in Paris yesterday, I stopped by ABP to pick up and order some custom straps for several watches for me and my wife. Unfortunately, they mixed up my initial order so had to redo it. I was pretty sure of what I wanted initially but after seeing further options I became a bit confused and now would like some impartial advice and views to help with a couple decisions. The dilemma involves my black dial Duometre Chronograph. I originally chose a BLACK NUBUCK alligator with a multi-tonal colorway and texture. Then, yesterday I saw an amazing smoke dark grey multi-tonal NUBUCK alligator which seemed to contrast well with the dial as it has some elements of silver/grey which matches well with the white gold hands. So on to the stitching. I chose 2 different stitches to match the hands, metal silver stitch and a copper/rose gold stitch. Now, which one to use? I could also go with a double stitch as I have a custom strap for a Parmigiani with a double stitch and I think it looks great. So please see the photos below and let me know your thoughts.

1. Grey NUBUCK multi-tonal alligator with rose gold stitch

2. Grey NUBUCK multi-tonal alligator with silver metallic stitch

3. Same strap with double stitch (rose gold and silver metallic)

This strap was made for another watch but shows how the gold stitch would look even though this stitch color is more yellowish.

And lastly, a spare strap from my Omega Apollo 8 in a racing style. I think it looks cool but my wife says it does not match this type of watch πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

I have had an amazing experience with them over many years and have never been disappointed which includes multiple times they had to redo a few straps due to. The one thing I appreciate the most is they take responsibility to make sure you are 100% satis...

She is right: the Speedmaster strap does seem out of balance with the Duometre. The grey straps are superb As far as the stitch is concerned: I don’t like the double stitch that much, it’s too much and defeats the purpose. But that rose gold stitch, which...

I would go for number two.

But regardless of the stitching color, the strap is gorgeous.

I really love the 1st option! [nt]

On the nubuck. Sublime!

That color strap is beautiful.

And it works very well with the dial. I think a gold stitch takes the focus away from the dial. To some extent, anyway. The silver doesn’t draw attention to the strap. That would be my preference.

I ordered a dark gray distressed gator strap for my Duometre Chrono too!

I went with blue contrast stitching so I already voted for option 1 with my wallet. One thing also considered was an asymmetric stitching pattern - silver stitching on the left and blue (gold for you) stitching on the right to match the dial layout with s...

Thanks for the feedback and I also think a racing type strap would make it more casual and sporty, so 9.5 for rose gold, 2.5 for double stitch and 2 for metallic silver...

I most likely will get a few more straps since I like different looks so one will surely be some sort if nubuck calf (standard or racing type) πŸ‘ I do agree with most of what you said but since the Duometres are in precious metal, mine 2 being white gold a...

First option ! [nt]
