Well... the watch stil very much IS a REVERSO
Jul 15, 2022,16:30 PM
Jaeger LeCoultre as a brand did not exist in 1932.
But the REVERSO did.
The long description with the auction does give a pretty clear path to explain what the watch is, and who is 'responsible' for its customisation into a gift for AH (who was at the time a regular head of state, not history N°1 evil), and this is the jeweler Andreas Huber (who then distributed several high-end swiss brands like IWC and Lange, sometimes under its own name as in the present case).
The watch is very much a REVERSO, with parts coming from the regular suppliers for the REVERSO (i.e. Spécialités Horlogères / LeCoultre)
While it is futile and vain to try to associate any modern 21st century company / image with the watch that was once presented to a despictable person (who likely never wore it), it is also a bit naive to try to shy away from this bad unfortunate association by claiming the watch to be inauthentic, or to call the whole thing being fake news.
The watch clearly is a 1932 REVERSO that was presented to (and therefore 'owned') by AH.
And, I agree it should not be sold.
(interestingly, the french 'owners' had to go via an american specialist militaria / nazi-related auction house since the sale would be illegal in Europe ! )
In any case, this is certainly not a fake news.
A reverso watch once presented to AH is definitively been auctioned next week. there is nothing fake about that
