JLC 6B/159

 By: speedbird : November 23rd, 2017-23:13
Greetings, I thought I would share this with you folks. Any idea if this is original-ish? I’m sure the hands have been changed and certainly the crown, drilled spring bars of course, but how about the rest ? I’m curious to know more about this configurati...

Seriously?

Thats a civil watch dating to 1945, case engraving is a plain fake and the scratched-in broadarrow on the movement really hurts! Whats the movement caliber? P478? Watch itself is a reference E159 but this has nothing to do with the military inscription 6b...

Thanks!

That’s okay, the folks over at MWR had serious doubts too, to put it lightly. I picked it up for $375 and I’m fine with that. I’m going to keep it, get it serviced. It’s a nice little watch and other than a dodgy inscription, it isn’t hurting anyone. ...

Dials

Do e159 dials come up for sale from time to time? I’m not bothered about the inscription but I would like to replace the dial eventually

I found it... Not 159 nor Mark 7 but Ref 2982B.

Here is a Ref 2982B Made in 1946, chromium plated case, P 478 inside. Credit picture: Analog and Shift. ...

Indeed!

Looks like you nailed it! Thanks a ton! Would you have the case re-plated? I’ve already discussed it with some folks who do it and it’s going to be an easy and cheap procedure. Or, would you just let it be an old JLC and proudly so?

Thanks

Yeah it was a toss-up. Most folks say no too. I think I’ll leave it. It’s not like it’s really worth it. Again, thank you for finding the true reference for me. That’s very helpful

Dead Seconds

The only seconde morte I’ve ever held was a Rolex TruBeat. Very interesting complication

18th of January 2018. ;) [nt]

Beautiful

I’d like to see that too. So for $375, it seems it’s not too bad, other than the dodgy engraving, which is unfortunate

that's quite specific, vide infra. makes me wonder...
