I know the feeling!

Mar 01, 2022,17:46 PM

I just asked today a DJ 41 mm with jubilee bracelet to my AD (4 watches purchased in 3 years) but was told i can not have one… was recommended to buy a 36mm two tone with diamond dial instead !!

Do not play their game, there are other choices: i am considering in my case an Omega globe master with the lunette cannelle as well in 39mm.

Cheers

Kill the gray market

 By: watchme : March 1st, 2022-17:09
You would think, with the scarcity of product from brands like Patek, JLC, Rolex, Tudor, etc., that THEY would be able to starve off and clean up the gray market. Yet we see some brand new pieces show up on Chrono24, Jomashop, Prestige Time, etc., before ...

Good for you! The Globe Master is awesome, so well made and that movement is incredible in it's accuracy, resistance to magnetism and looks pretty nice too.

It's sad when one cannot even buy a simple DateJust without a hassle, but whatever; it's the world we're in now, and I'm certainly not feeding this frenzy

It could be the higher the market price goes…

the less likely honest collectors are to get pieces. It’s like ADs have a spreadsheet for every client, with how much over retail they’ve given you vs what loss you took on other purchases. Most ADs are obsessed with this. The higher some pieces go they’l...

There is only one way and it's impossible

Consumers or buyers need to stop supporting the gray dealers by not buying from them. Simple but not likely to happen. The other is to stop people from buying from AD's and reselling to gray. Also not likely to happen.

+1!

Cry more! It’s self inflicted and wanted by the industry but true enthusiast don’t give a shit!

Either eat the shit the market is offering or move on because you suck at the game!

No money, no game. Simple as that!

Strong people question the narrative. They can skip what’s sought after.

Pas de Mérite with your post.

Sorry.

As a practicing economist...I just wish manufacturers raised prices. It's simple. Grey market dealers are already telling them where the supply curve is. Deadweight loss for manufacturers and honest ADs with the insanely low pricing.

I will be the first to stand up and applaud when the MSRP of a Rolex Daytona is $25,000 and we see them in shop windows again. How about a nice 114060 for $17,000. A tool watch for every diver.

As a practicing economist...

 By: eklektik : March 1st, 2022-21:54
.... i wish watch manufacturers were making watches in 1000s instead of 10s so that any model would be below the 5k$ mark and be affordable by all 😀 More seriously, whether one likes it or not, at a given point in time, the market is always right (at leas...

The market

 By: Weems@8 : March 1st, 2022-20:07
First, it is for me an interesting situation. Watches does matter for many parties. Everybody jumps on it, honest, not honest, enthusiasts, investors. Sure, i eat the dust. Bad timing, not alert enough. But i can laugh about my stupidness. I have my desir...

That is a great reply

I can appreciate that.

It will unfortunately not end until a major recession with big losses for a lot of people and them getting burned badly.

 By: marcobermann : March 1st, 2022-20:18
This is of course only my humble opinion but I nearly choked on my breakfast this morning whilst surfing a well known reseller owned by a major watch brands owner as they had the now infamous "Tiffany" Dial Oyster and at mere 6 times retail what a bargain...

Dishonest ADs have always been in the market

 By: penfriend : March 1st, 2022-20:23
In the 90ies I was for the first time in SGP and the ADs were presenting lots of steel daytonas under their counter at double price to interested customers. Take it or leave it but don't think too much about it, there are alternatives.

What do I think?

 By: fmc000 : March 1st, 2022-21:02
I think that the brands aren't going to slow it down anytime soon. Why? Because their job is to sell watches, it's simple as that. Thay don't care if passionate collectors cannot buy at retail as long as the demand is so high that they don't even need to ...

I refuse to play the game

 By: JToddH : March 1st, 2022-22:11
After my first couple of Rolexes, I started branching out to other brands. There are too many options to justify crazy markups on the usual suspects.

I hope the gray market doesn't go away...

 By: David Allen : March 1st, 2022-23:46
Otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to acquire most of my watches. I'm also not finished with collecting so I'll need to tap into the secondary market in the future as I don't play AD games. I've worked in and studied economics most of my life. And from ...

Well said!

What will the manufacturer's excuse be when...

 By: mdg : March 3rd, 2022-05:38
...they take all sales in-house and get rid of ADs? There will be nowhere to hide. They will have access to every purchase and serial number...

Generally speaking, if the market points in one direction, I turn around and walk the other way.

 By: Rosneathian : March 6th, 2022-16:00
I don't enjoy the constant frenetic energy around new watches. It's too much. The marketing is too much. The salivating is too much. The prices are too much as well. It's much nicer to wait 2-3 years for the noise to die down, so you can be sure that the ...

I totally agree !

 By: pjphilippe : March 12th, 2022-02:39
I do watch videos on YouTube but I would never accept to buy over retail price. The craze we see today of commoditising new watches is totally insane and corrupt… I shall not support this.
