I know the feeling!
Mar 01, 2022,17:46 PM
I just asked today a DJ 41 mm with jubilee bracelet to my AD (4 watches purchased in 3 years) but was told i can not have one… was recommended to buy a 36mm two tone with diamond dial instead !!
Do not play their game, there are other choices: i am considering in my case an Omega globe master with the lunette cannelle as well in 39mm.
Cheers

Kill the gray market
By: watchme : March 1st, 2022-17:09
You would think, with the scarcity of product from brands like Patek, JLC, Rolex, Tudor, etc., that THEY would be able to starve off and clean up the gray market. Yet we see some brand new pieces show up on Chrono24, Jomashop, Prestige Time, etc., before ...

It could be the higher the market price goes…
By: oyster case : March 1st, 2022-18:06
the less likely honest collectors are to get pieces. It’s like ADs have a spreadsheet for every client, with how much over retail they’ve given you vs what loss you took on other purchases. Most ADs are obsessed with this. The higher some pieces go they’l...
There is only one way and it's impossible

Consumers or buyers need to stop supporting the gray dealers by not buying from them. Simple but not likely to happen. The other is to stop people from buying from AD's and reselling to gray. Also not likely to happen.

.... i wish watch manufacturers were making watches in 1000s instead of 10s so that any model would be below the 5k$ mark and be affordable by all 😀 More seriously, whether one likes it or not, at a given point in time, the market is always right (at leas...
The market
By: Weems@8 : March 1st, 2022-20:07
First, it is for me an interesting situation. Watches does matter for many parties. Everybody jumps on it, honest, not honest, enthusiasts, investors. Sure, i eat the dust. Bad timing, not alert enough. But i can laugh about my stupidness. I have my desir...
Dishonest ADs have always been in the market
By: penfriend : March 1st, 2022-20:23
In the 90ies I was for the first time in SGP and the ADs were presenting lots of steel daytonas under their counter at double price to interested customers. Take it or leave it but don't think too much about it, there are alternatives.
What do I think?
By: fmc000 : March 1st, 2022-21:02
I think that the brands aren't going to slow it down anytime soon. Why? Because their job is to sell watches, it's simple as that. Thay don't care if passionate collectors cannot buy at retail as long as the demand is so high that they don't even need to ...
I refuse to play the game

After my first couple of Rolexes, I started branching out to other brands. There are too many options to justify crazy markups on the usual suspects.

I hope the gray market doesn't go away...

Otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to acquire most of my watches. I'm also not finished with collecting so I'll need to tap into the secondary market in the future as I don't play AD games. I've worked in and studied economics most of my life. And from ...
I totally agree !

I do watch videos on YouTube but I would never accept to buy over retail price. The craze we see today of commoditising new watches is totally insane and corrupt… I shall not support this.
