How dirty can a Reverso get?!?

So, I’m visiting my wife’s family in China over Chinese New Year. Her sister wears a simple Reverso which I helped her purchase some time back. Since then she’s worn it daily - no, I doubt it’ll ever get serviced! - and when she told Mrs E that the strap was worn, we decided to bring a new strap with us.

When I saw the watch I was dumbfounded at how much caked-on dirt there was - all over the clasp, the lugs, the back of the carrier, the rear of the body...everywhere there could possibly be a thick layer of brown dirt and grime, there was.

So I spent an hour cleaning it before changing the strap. What else is there for an idle man to do when surrounded by his wife’s family? I was particularly surprised at how much gunk gets into the horizontal grooves that run across the top and bottom of the body of the watch.

Don’t think she really appreciates it, but the watch sure does look better, even if it’s nowhere close to perfect - and it certainly does show a lot of patina from being worn!

Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures of all the dirt, but I wouldn’t want to make you all feel ill anyway...so, one zoomed-out ‘before’ and a few ‘afters’...

Best

E.

I’m already golden with the in-laws ;-) but I don’t think I’ll be rewarded by my sister-in-law...although if her son gets sick of his anniversary 5711P or one of his RMs I’m always happy to help give them a place. Come to think of it, why didn’t he clean ...

Wow, that's nasty!

On one hand it's great to see she's really getting the most out of her reverso but a little tlc wouldn't hurt. My wife is great at taking care of people/dogs but maintaining things does not compute even a little bit so I get it. I don't understand it enti...

Yeah...

And I didn’t even think to take pictures of the worst bits! I don’t think this person will ever take care of things, particularly. So, it is what it is. At least Mrs E gets it... Best E.
