Back in the day (I believe the 50's and 60's), the US imposed import tarriffs on watches, therefore JLC imported uncased watches into the US to avoid such tariffs. They were then branded as LeCoultre instead of Jaeger LeCoultre to offer a distinction to those coming from Switzerland.
It was a rather common practice. Rolex and Omega had bracelets manufactured in the US and Mexico for the same reasons.

Thanks guys.. it is difficult to know what type of buckle it would have had? Was there a buckle with just LeCoultre without the Jaeger??
