Here's my opinion, like it or not...

The Daytona was a Speedmaster knock-off. Speedy debuts in '57 with the first tachymeter on the bezel, being practical for drag racing and car racing. When the 5 year patent (external part) expired, Rolex launched the Daytona (car race) and Heuer launched the Carrera (also a car race). All hand manual-wind movements. Rolex almost couldn't give them away until '88 when the El Primero became the engine. Suddenly it took off.

The AmVox2 series, although not the first automatic chrono by 40+ years, was the first real departure from chrono activation, and still - to this day - is IMO the coolest, most remarkable chronograph in the world. The DB9 version took it to a completely different level, being able to be tied to a car's security system. (I've long said that JLC should have made a version that could be programmed to any car, and can be re-programmed for your next car, too.)

My favorite of the AmVox2 series was the "concept" version, with ceramic case. Why? because the subdials were more discreet, being read at 3 and 9, and almost hiding the fact that it was a chronograph.

Jaeger Lecoultre Amvox II Racing Paris Boutique Edition versus Rolex Daytona Paul Newman 6264.

Incongruous comparison, you might think... But not so illogical, after all. As they both share the same " racing spirit ". This picture shows it all: Best, Nicolas ...

Wow, what a great photo!

Frankly, I prefer the Amvox even though the watch world is crazy for the Newman Daytona. Again, superb photograph. M4

Well, if you put it that way...

I agree but no Daytona (old or current) can beat the AMVOX2 Racing...šŸ˜‰ ...

Totally agree [nt]

PN Daytona is better investment, however honestly Amvox II Racing Paris Edition is simply better grail watch.

+1. [nt]

A very interesting photo, of two very different watches.

While the JLC is super technical and futuristic, I might be in the minority, but I prefer the classic simple uncluttered design of the Daytona, regardless of the price point. I guess Iā€™m getting old, maybe stuck in time. Who knows? I really appreciate thi...

Wow, great pairing! Funny, I don't think I've ever seen a Paul Newman share the spotlight with anything...

In context the Daytona certainly has a classic design but that JLC just looks exciting and dynamic - color, texture, engineering, all of it.

Exactly! šŸ‘ [nt]

I liked this comparison when you first proposed it years ago...

and I like it still! The juxtaposition is dramatic to see, and I'm not sure the Rolex carries the day so easily. In terms of innovation and scarcity, this version of the Amvox 2 surpasses the Daytona in both respects. Best, Tim

I meant Amvox II Paris Panda [nt]

The same goes for many other Rolex's and many other brands but we should stay on topic...šŸ˜‰

The Amvox 2 is my favorite from the Amvox line...

JLC outdid themselves with the Amvox 2 and I still think they should resurrect this line or complication in the future since it is so unique. It was truly ahead of it's time!! My favorite of this line is the Amvox 2 with the Transponder function to go alo...

I actually had 2 of these Amvox 2 Transponders at one point but traded one to a collector with an Aston Martin DBS so it went along with his car...

as for my other Amovx 2 Transponder, I still have it but it is in a bank safe in California and yes it is paired to my Rapide which is also there šŸ˜‰ The Amvox 2 Transponder which I traded was paired to my old 1st gen Vanquish which I sold for and eventuall...

oh now I know. I think you are just parking on the Tesla, on the way to Superleggera or the V12 Roadster?

there is no contest here, really. For me, my Tesla P100D is better than my old 1st gen Vanquish in almost every measurable metric, including practically. The Vanquish was an exquisite car in every way as well as being beautiful but from a daily driver poi...

I have a friend with the X model and it is indeed very practical. I did sign up early for the Roadster GT and anxiously waiting like everyone else šŸ˜
