There is nothing in this design to tempt a long time JLC collector. I’m afraid JLC hasn’t woken up from their yawn inspiring design phase. I can’t remember the name of the young woman who designed their compressor line, but they sorely need someone with fresh and bold thinking like she brought to the brand back then, to snap them out of their prolonged slumber.
JLCs value proposition was mid-priced watches with interesting complications and designs as well as movement innovations. There was a lot of excitement to the brand 10 years ago, but what is their brand identity today?
To be fair to JLC, this is the disease of the entire modern watch industry. Aspirational prices, derivative designs and movements, almost nothing that makes the heart flutter. Perhaps, this is a time for independents to shine.
