Jaeger-LeCoultre E159 non-SHOM screw down caseback - what's the story?

JLC E159 has been one of my favourite vintage watches since I saw one a few years ago here. Since then I've bought a sold a few until I found one a good condition where both the dial and the case were well-preserved. Here are some shots. However, I couldn...

lovely...lots of character on the dial !

Absolutely outstanding! I would buy one in a heartbeat if they made a new one, particularly if they kept it fairly close to the original. Thanks for sharing the great pictures.

Thanks!

Do you know if 159s with screw down casebacks came later or if it's just a variation that was produced alongside the ones with snap-on casebacks?

And this is what I would love to know:

when did 159 get a screw down back and at what point the movement got upgraded to the nickel-plated BWSbr. I don't think the M.N. has requested a specific combo of watch and movement. Or have they?

Here is the movement of the SHOM.

My old e159 had the snap back, and fabrique en Suisse (white dial) - the screw backs seem a bit less common - there was one extraordinary example of a shom with a screw back at artcurial (I think it was) a couple of years back. ...? ...

This one?

Now that would be an awesome tribute piece to produce. Except maybe make it 38-39 mm? Black and white dials, too, maybe I'll take one of each :-)

Keep screwback solid case, 100m WR. Mme Renier, are you listening? I know, I know, no manual wind central seconds. And not the belle/haute horologie which she favors at present. But I still dream on.

Maybe an updated 898 with longer PR, certainly not the 899 as why would you want a date here?

I am still waiting for JLC to give me a (new) reason to buy a sibling to my steel TTG... I am surprised you would accept the 898, since you found this to be the weak spot in the TTG, n'est-ce pas?

I totally agree - Mark XI is fantastic

And I wouldn’t mind owning a tribute as well. ...

Wow is that beautiful
