You are so right.
This white date window destroys the dial.
I think these standardized white date wheels are produced en masse to be implemented into as many watches as possible, regardless of whether the color of the wheel matches the dial or not.
For me this is simply a cost-saving strategy.

Subtract the date, and this beats the Explorer hands down.
With the date... it's debatable.
But i read somewhere that it is less reliable than caliber 30110 which is ETA-based, in the mark XV.
My opinion is the Mark XV keeps the balance between classic size and reliability but i understand the appeal of JLC caliber

I like both versions a lot. Recently I tried the new titanium version, but did not buy it as the AD was very stiff on prices. I may get one from the used market eventually. Very drawn to the older designs especially the Mark XII’s dial.
