New IWC Portuguese Perpetual Calendar 42

May 28, 2020,11:56 AM

Lucky to receive this by courier today.

I like the new size and classic Portuguese design.

It was easy to reset the date, of course. I included a couple comparison shots to the full size Perpetual.

How does this fit into your rotation?

It will be a daily wear for now.

My watch rotation is often random, but some occasions deserve this beauty!

Right on! [nt]

Looks great

nice they kept the traditional as well. I wouldn't mind the smaller blue dial with the weaved effect strap

Looking great

The portuguese is great as a daily wear watch. Can you post photos of the caseback ?

Here is a pic of the back

I saw this watch in person back in February and immediately liked the 42 mm size. And, now that you can have one in stainless is an extra bonus.

You're right.

 By: biw : May 28th, 2020-15:39
The 42 stainless is more comfortable because of overall size and weight for me. BTW, I like your username. Wish I thought of that.

Nice pick up!

What is the delta on thickness of the two?

14.9 - 13.8 = 1.1 [nt]

By: India Whiskey Charlie : May 28th, 2020-15:19

They are both resting on the lugs.

 By: biw : May 29th, 2020-12:29
The new 42 back and lugs are even. I’ll check the Perpetual Blue later today. The new 42 thickness is 13.8 mm. The full size Perpetual Blue IW503203 is 15.5 mm. The new Perpetual Blue IW503401 thickness is 14.9 mm. That may explain the appearance of the d...

Just checked the lugs/backs

 By: biw : May 29th, 2020-19:10
The lugs on both watches are even with the backs. I can confirm the thickness of my Blue Perpetual IW503203 is 15.5 mm, the new Perpetual 42 thickness is 13.8 mm.

I used to have the 44 mm PPC

Why Did they exclude the year on this new model? Is this a newly developed movement? Love the dial. Super watch. Wear it in good health. Charlie Bravo (CB)

They still have the 44 mm with the year

The 42 mm is all new and slightly more affordable in gold and now they added a stainless steel version.

They have it in stainless steel.

I must check that out. I am trying to reduce the number of gold pieces and go more under the radar with SS,WG or Platinum.

That's what the model above is - IW344203

Congratulations. I really liked both the new auto and the PC. Can you please share lug to lug length on your own convenience?

Thanks.

Innovation

 By: Martin 288 : May 31st, 2020-23:12
Beautiful watch. I understand that there is an interesting innovation with this new movement, i. e. one can adjust the calendar forward as well as backward? Is it correct?

Calendar function

 By: biw : June 1st, 2020-03:09
Hi. The instructions I saw stated you cannot reverse the calendar. Also, as with most calendars, it has a "do not adjust" time window if you need to advance the date (around 2200h to 0200h - don't quote me). Excerpt from the manual: When crossing time zon...

Prototype

 By: Martin 288 : June 1st, 2020-10:22
Thank you, the prototype version I saw allowed to reverse the date though.

That would have been a great feature.

 By: biw : June 1st, 2020-18:14
I wish that was the case, but I will not try it! I'll ask my friends at the boutique, though.

Great watch. Really enjoying it.

 By: biw : August 10th, 2020-15:22
Enjoying the smaller size compared to its big brother. Gets more wear as a result. Other than the size, the weight as a stainless steel case is easier to wear. Keeps very accurate time, of course. Perpetual, bliss. My favorite IWC right now. Hoping to vis...
