Have you tried reversing the straps? Manufacturers are not consistent in the direction in which their clasps close.

This is by design. IWC deployant straps are designed to keep the deployant clasp centered on the wrist. So a shorter "head" strap and longer "tail" strap will keep the clasp away from the side of the wrist. More comfortable this way. The original strap wa...

Actually the original strap also came on a deployant, both have shorter straps just one is significantly shorter. I was thinking there might be two types of IWC deployants

IWC introduced the "butterfly" type deployant in the last couple years and offers it on some of their newer Portugieser models. This type sits more centered on the wrist and I think requires the longer "head" strap: Photo from eBay ...
