I have been searching for a 5002 for about six months.
One of the inspirations for this watch was Reading many posts from our dear moderator, India Whiskey Charlie. The big pilot line is my favorite model in the IWC brand. I figured it would be appropriate to own the model that started it all. I was very particular about the one I wanted. It had to be in mint condition with full box and papers. Those characteristics were actually difficult to find. The vast majority of these big pilots did not have full box and papers or we’re in difficult condition. I was so happy when I stumbled across a minty full set BP 5002 from a fellow Purist. It was fortuitous because, knowing fellow purists, we take care of our watches well and keep the box and papers in good order.
I have been wearing and admiring the watch all week. I love the presence of the Big Pilot and I am now appreciating the differences between the old and newer BPs. I love them both.
DarronY took the last time lapsed photo explaining to me its significance. I was unaware of the exact definition of a transitional model. Initially my only demand was full box and papers and mint condition. Transitional model ended up being a nice bonus. The last picture shows that this model beats six times per second or 12 times in two seconds indicating a high beat movement. Very cool.
Thanks DarronY
