I have owned one for three years and have had no issues.

I wear mine from time to time and it always brings a smile to my face. I don't do anything that could be considered vigorous with it but it has kept time quite consistently on the wrist; about +5 to +10 seconds a day. I'm sure that could be improved with servicing but it doesn't bother me at the moment.
Like you, this watch was one that fuelled my admiration for IWC and for mechanical watches. Since you have admired it for so long, you should acquire one. The joy of connecting fond memories of past to the present and making your own memories with one is worth it and is what drove me to acquire one. All the best in your decision making process.

The movement is very cool, too. One caveat for daily wear (besides low water resistance) is the plexiglass crystal. It is one of the things that gives the piece charm, but you must be careful to avoid scratching it.
