I’d decide between manual and automatic here and case dimensions - the date

Aug 11, 2020,16:11 PM

Is decently integrated aesthetically. I find Rolex and Lange integrate the date best and otherwise like no date. Here I don’t find it a deal breaker. Best,

To date or not to date

By: India Whiskey Charlie : August 11th, 2020-13:27
These happen to be IWC but as a general preference, do you like a date or do you prefer a watch with no date? My vote goes for no date whenever possible and absolutely no date when the window is in an odd or wrong place. Photos from IWC ...

I am not good at remembering the date

 By: mkvc : August 11th, 2020-13:36
but my eyes are no longer good enough to read it from a watch dial unless I am wearing my glasses. I have a general preference for no date, but I acknowledge that some watches look better with dates. I have no problem buying and wearing those, but I never...

No-date, not an iota of doubt !

Best, mahesh.,

No date.

No date but they are becoming scares.

No date for this example

Also like the blue numerals on the no date watch.

I'm generally in the no-date camp too, even if mainly for aesthetic reasons (sometimes taking a quick glance at the date is just useful! ;-)

 By: FabR : August 11th, 2020-14:17
But since practical reasons are often secondary in our hobby (nobody needs a watch to know the date or even to tell the time...), I'm casting a no-date vote for most (but not all) watches that I can think of. For certain, when the date is present, it *mus...

Many times, for position on the dial or dimension, the date is a break in the overall equilibrium of a watch:

I still remember the disappointment I felt in seeing the Portuguese 75th anniversary, after seeing the disastrous result caused by the date. Without that date, I would have bought it immediately... Hard problem to solve! Best, massi ...

That is a really good example of what a date can do to a solid watch.

All my watches have a date but one and I recently picked up a submariner. After buying it, I had a moment of panic as i could have purchased a no date and saved some $. After wearing it for a while and the 2.5 x magnifier, i find it very helpful in this c...

I prefer a date...

and on occasion the day of the week... more so since I stopped my formal 7:30-5:00 job. but it must be large enough to read without a magnifier... Casey Small seconds are nice... .

Awful! ;) [nt]

No date that’s fine but...

... how about day and month windows, acceptable or not ? ...

Well well.... [nt]

I can live with either.

Only non-date watches I have are my vintage pieces. I wouldn't mind picking up a modern piece with no date at some point. Maybe a Rolex Oyster or a Reverso. I really don't need any other complications on my watches and actually prefer a simple piece, with...

I prefer the no date version here. But it’s the blue numerals that are influencing my preference most.

 By: BigAppleBill : August 11th, 2020-14:33
I typically lean towards no date, especially if a cyclops accompanies the date. But a well placed, well executed date window isn’t necessarily a deal breaker.

I’d decide between manual and automatic here and case dimensions - the date

No date, with some exceptions such as Lange

If there is a date, I want it to change instantaneously at midnight and I don't want there to be a danger zone when setting it.

In this case, no date.

 By: Jay (Eire) : August 11th, 2020-17:45
I do admit that a date is useful, but only if properly integrated into the design. It’s one of the things I miss from my Datograph.

no date....but for these 2, date please...

 By: Gniquil : August 11th, 2020-17:53
Although I echo everyone else's sentiment of no-date, the thing is, the new auto 40 loses something due to the "relatively larger" size of the numerals to me. For me, the Portugueser is all about being oversized, but paired with those slightly awkward but...

No date!

 By: sham1 : August 11th, 2020-17:56
For me, it makes the dial look more pure and the uncluttered.

No date, especially when it is brought in into to the original model

 By: PoyFR : August 11th, 2020-18:54
and now, part or not part of the original version, no date at all unless I can see it with my naked eye.

It's all a matter of execution (and context) for me.

 By: Modernahab : August 11th, 2020-20:10
Date at 3:00 - not so good, unless it's well-aligned with the remaining numerals. A frame helps... Good: Not as good: I like a date at 6:00 much better - especially with a color-matched date wheel: The GO "panoramadatum" is a special case - brilliantly ex...

Generally I prefer no date too.

 By: Watchmatician : August 11th, 2020-20:27
But I love some of the well designed date function like the Big date of Lange watches or Kari 217QRS

It depends.

 By: jlux : August 12th, 2020-01:35
Very pure watches like the IWC that you show are better without a date. Other than that I can easily live with a date. The only no-go is a date placement that reveals a (too) small movement for the chosen case size.

No date

 By: rnaden : August 12th, 2020-03:50
I don't need the date on the watch as I usually know what the date is. When I'm retired, I couldn't care less what the date is anyway, so why bother? The watch looks much better without the date in this case. Richard

Yes and no

 By: Jurry : August 12th, 2020-04:30
Daily wear watches (regardless leisure or work) I like a date. It’s just a useful complication. When it comes to a real dress watch than no date.

It depends...

 By: jkvs : August 12th, 2020-14:03
Rolex and ALS watches need a date... This is typical for these brands. When it comes to simple but elegant „dress watches“ I would do without a date display.

Date for me

 By: Todd B. : August 13th, 2020-10:26
Date is a must for me. I have one Rolex and one Montblanc that does not have the date and it drives me crazy because all my other watches have the date so I'm quite used to looking at my wrist for the date when signing documents for work.

No date window PLEASSSSSEEEEE!!

 By: MTR : August 14th, 2020-12:34
Here it completely destroys the harmony of the dial. IMHO

I always prefer no date. [nt]
