I've always loved those time-only Portuguese, but they were always so big! At 40mm I'm going to have to seriously consider this.

"yawn, isn't this an existing model?" Then I noticed the size: a smaller case should make it very appealing - well done IWC! I hope to catch a wrist shot soon

Except it's a bit thicker than I'd like a 40 mm watch to be.
At 12.4mm it's pretty thick for a 'classy' watch...
...but IWC tends to have two case sizes; hockey puck or tuna can...
Too thick indeed
The original Portugiesers were thin watches. But they were also manual wound: they have no respect for history ;-) I would have gone all the way and created a new manual wound caliber, with a closed caseback and the old logo on the dial too!!
Reminds me of the Pure Classic I owned several years ago.
Simple, thin (Piaget movement) and a more manageable diameter. It was of course a little too dressy so it never got worn ! This one is a little more casual with the sub seconds.

It is an IWC, so why extra slim? 40 mm and 12 mm ... if you are after a substantial RG watch: that is the one.
Only 2 things I don't like : all polished case and no yellow gold option
The original portuguese case always impress me with combination of brushed and polished case, especially on the side of the case. All polished case is a bit boring and plain. And a yellow gold case would be a killer classic dress watch at 40 mm. Nice try ...
We have not yet see the side pictures.
I hope that the sides are brushed, as one of the characters of Portuguese.

Excellent release, 40mm will make many people happy ! And No Date ...for Purist ! The ticknes comes from the automatic i think ?? Probably a choice for the modern buyer and they already have
an 8 day hand wound in the line up. Fantastic watch also in blue and silver dial.
