Interesting comment, thank you

your statement that 'a watch should show time quickly' makes me wonder what you would make of watches from Urwerk, HYT and the horological series from MB&F.  They tell the time in a different and arguably more fun way.  Some might even debate the readability of the time on a regulator where there is a separate dial for the hour and minute hand. Or how about. Meistersinger's one handed watches designed so that people see life in a more relaxing way since it would be impossible to tell the precise time at any one time. The Jacob and Co Astronomia arguably tells the time more clearly than any of the above examples as it has a separate dial for hours and minutes. One of course cannot help but by getting distracted by the beauty of everything else around that dial.  Somehow though, I think telling the time quickly might not be the main purpose for buying most watches - the phone will probably be most efficient for this purpose  smile

Who says size does not matter?!! :-)

I had the privilege to try on a Jacob & Co Astronomia watch which also happened to be a piece unique. Quite a sight to behold with so much going on in the 50mm case which was also 25mm high. The watch comes with a flying tourbillon and that is a one c...

Wow, now that is something!

Best Reubin

One I feel

will never get bored feasting one's eyes on the watch. There is so much to look at and the aventurine dial is one of the best I have seen with this material.

My dear Nico

You are sooo diplomatic - 'problematic' is an understatement!! It is almost a watch for the arm or ankle!!

Wearing It

 By: Steve E : March 16th, 2019-14:15
Well, you could put it on a chain and hang it round your neck...

I certainly could but

 By: sham1 : March 16th, 2019-22:10
that would just make it too easy for snatch thieves. At least on a wrist, I have a fighting chance!!

Such an awesome piece of horology!

 By: jleno : March 16th, 2019-14:21
I love it when complications are unique and novel as opposed to the usual perpetual calendars, minute repeaters, etc. Regardless, this is a watch I would prefer to appreciate from a distance rather than ever own or wear myself, even if I could afford it. ...

Agreed!

 By: sham1 : March 16th, 2019-22:12
It is certainly an awesome piece of horology - such creativity and imagination. Super to ogle at but not quite for daily wear perhaps.

I recently discovered that you can also get an astronomia as a table clock

Perhaps a better form factor for something like this

That sounds a lot more practical

 By: sham1 : March 17th, 2019-20:51
and would be something worth having! Thank you.

I found a photo!

 By: sham1 : March 18th, 2019-00:02
And it costs a lot less too!! ...

I think no... [nt]

He! He!

Thank you for your decisiveness

I wonder if you can get a ride on Elon Musk's rocket ship for the same money?

Either way, it's a discretionary purchase, isn't it? Not something one buys without a serious bit of pondering. I like the audacity of this watch. Mike

It is a bit disconcerting I must confess

 By: sham1 : March 16th, 2019-22:18
that a Patek Philippe minute repeater costs less but then again, I see this more of a show watch than a watch that is intended to be discreet.

It's not for me, thanks.

For me, one of the valued qualities of fine watchmaking is the ability to provide sophisticated complications while maintaining reasonable dimensions. I'd call it wearability, in simple terms. No matter what you spend on a wristwatch, it should be wearabl...

Thank you very much for your candour!

 By: sham1 : March 16th, 2019-22:20
I agree that a watch should always be wearable and although this is sometimes a subjective issue, I think only the most unscrupulous sales person would say that this watch fitted my wrist perfectly.

A very interesting watch , i do like a avant-garde watch and i think you must see this as a piece of art .

 By: Watchonthewrists : March 17th, 2019-00:34
Will be hard to wear this one i think . But of you do you have def something to look at . Thanks for this report my friend .

I think so too my friend!!

 By: sham1 : March 17th, 2019-00:40
It might be too large even for your wrist and this could be one watch I buy that may not attract any interest from you! But yes, a marvel to look at!

I appreciate a nice piece of wristart my friend although it is not my cup of tea 😉

 By: Watchonthewrists : March 17th, 2019-00:53
When you buy it i will def have a good look and try it on the wrist 🤗.

I agree

 By: sham1 : March 17th, 2019-00:56
I too appreciate what the watchmaker has done but to appreciate and to invest in one is quite a different matter

Reminds me of another timepiece

That bad huh?!! :-)

Thanks Uncle Chico

I mean it as a compliment

They both attempt to capture the heavens. One on the wall, the other on a wrist. The one on the wrist is more difficult.

Oh ok, ok!!

 By: sham1 : March 17th, 2019-01:24
Sorry, I thought you were referring to the clock's size!! What they are portraying on the watch is quite an accomplishment despite its size. In fact, one might argue, it would be near impossible to make this watch any smaller and yet have the same impact ...

but where in the "Astronomia" is the astronomy?

 By: Marcus Hanke : March 17th, 2019-02:01
In fact, the large astronomical clock (Strasbourg?) depicted has nothing to do with the "wristwatch" featured in this thread. The clock strives for a - more or less - correct reproduction of the "heavenly clockworks", while the Jacob watch is nothing of t...

Are two bodyguards included

 By: MTR : March 17th, 2019-02:09
in this purchase price? I am afraid you need them if you dare to stroll around the streets with this ... golden leviathan. If you want a watch (piece of art) that you have to wrap around your upper arm. 😎 Best, Thomas

I would not even trust the bodyguards with this watch!! :-)

 By: sham1 : March 17th, 2019-02:20
One would notice it from a distance and then notice it grow in size as one gets closer to it! I personally feel that it would be a great watch to have on display as there is so much to admire but to wear it requires a brave person, both in confidence and ...

Yes, perhaps at home...

 By: MTR : March 17th, 2019-02:48
... in darkened rooms. With activated alarm system. 😁 Cheers, Thomas

Then again

 By: sham1 : March 17th, 2019-03:26
one could argue that the watch is so large that one not in the know might mistake it for something at the other end of the price spectrum!

That watch would provide ...

hours of entertainment just by looking at the mechanism at work 😍

I could not agree more!

 By: sham1 : March 18th, 2019-18:11
But perhaps the clock version would make more sense than the watch!

difficult for me

 By: Weems@8 : April 4th, 2019-14:30
Shure, the astronomia is not an everage watch. But is it a watch? For me a watch is a product to see time quick. Look at tiny parts and searching where the hour hand is, i think that a Rolex do better than a Jacob co. But this not means for me that an ast...
