Vintage IWC Pocketwatch questions

Aug 17, 2018,19:30 PM

My uncle passed away last year and my aunt has asked me to help sell his watches and other jewelry. I'm familiar with most of the watches she gave me but this IWC pocketwatch is something a bit different for me. Although I've seen similar watches on-line, the markings and features are slightly different from the other. I've been told that this is a caliber 73 made in 1913, but would love confirmation from an expert.

The watch is keeping good time but I have no idea when it was last serviced and there are no documents or boxes. Can anybody confirm the details above about the vintage and caliber and give me an idea how much I should ask for when I sell it?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Chris

This watch is a very good watch, IWC never had cheap watches. I think 1920 for the champagne dial. Not highest class, because you need the pusher to set the time. Audemars or Patek, nobody knows it exactly, invented the set time by crown (I dont know the ...

my dear friend was invented by Adrien Philippe.

It is 14K YG, so typically an export piece to be sold outside of Switzerland.

Love to see a picture of the movement, can help you more by PM for value too. Not an easy sell, love to see these stay in the families, but understand that folks rarely wear or use PW anymore. A bit of a shame as there are some superb pieces out there. Th...

Great condition for a pocket watch. I can't see any watchmaker engravings (normally they'd hand engrave their special code), so it may not have even been worked on ever.

I think you better auction it off here while a half-dozen of us are hot for it :-)

It's very nice, but as someone said, not as appealing to the younger generation and all the old farts who like pocket watches have a few already. Sort of like antique carved oak furniture and 19" B/W television sets - you can hardly give them away, sadly....

I'll take that sideboard, Mike.
