The new Grönefeld 1941 Principia

Oct 18, 2018,01:59 AM

So the brothers have build an automatic movement for the Remontoire case. My first reaction was “hey a 1815 from the Netherlands”. But after some more contemplation that is not a fair reaction.

Purists would probably want a hand wound movement. Especially from the Grönefeld Brothers as they produce the most stunning visual movements on the planet (imo). But now you could argue that they have produced one of the most stunning automatic movements!

If you are looking for a super classic dress watch with the safety of a big brand behind it; go Lange or Patek. But if you are looking for something a bit more funky and at least as impressive if not more than this could be something for you.

Looking at the extreme finishing of the movement and quality of the dials, hands, well everything you do get a lot of bang for the buck!

PS
Maybe this would also be a nice watch for a lady. Independent beauty combined with the ease of an automatic movement.

but then I'm a big fan of time-only watches, large sub-seconds subdials, no-holes on the dial, and salmon-colored dials. They even a personal configurator for the watch on their website. Pretty cool.

Yes those salmon dials 😍

And perhaps they will even do a bespoke guilloché dial later on?

I like the style a lot

As an alternative to the mainstream, I think this offers a great deal. though...if i am honest, the Rementoire calls the loudest to me

Agreed

that the Gronefeld brothers make the most visually stunning movements in the market. My main question is how would this watch compare to Laurent Ferrier's Galet Micro Rotor which also has a stunning movement? I would have liked a slight smaller case but I...

I think you got a strong point there my friend.

Although its a gorgeous watch i also think a micro rotor would fit this movement a bit better . Still i am deep in love with Remontoire with that stunning hand wound movement .

I could not agree more!

Bart emailed me last week to say they should have enough Remontoires until the end of next year so we have one year to save up for one!!

Yes he told me a few weeks ago that they still have some movements left .

Hope to strap one on the wrist asap 😉🤗

It sure is a stunning watch and a real competitor for some other larger brands like you mentioned .

For me as a independent watchlover its not even a issue , this watch above all others 🤗

I like it ..

I would like to see the rotor pierced if not a micro version.

I see this as a missed opportunity.

Fantastic movement, I personally don't have a problem with the full rotor. But why the same case / dial as the remontoire? I know it is a small brand, limited resources etc but one has to stay creative on all fronts regardless. This should have been the b...

That's a fair point. However, you are one of a small few to own a Gronfeld and so this watch perhaps opens up a new market/new buyer. They may not be so focused on having you/existing customer buy this watch.

Personally I'm happy they carried through the same case, because it's just superb. I've only seen a handful of the remontoire where I think the dial actually works (on some dials the cut-out just doesn't look right due to the difference / contrast beteeen...

Good point but I am a huge fan of the case, it just fits well and looks awesome.

The Remontoire 1941 is a special piece and I would personally prefer two different Remontoires, one rose gold and another in white gold.

Loving it!

Especially the classic font they introduced now, it just looks stunning. This is my favourite configuration. ...

Dapper 👍🏻

The combination of salmon dial and blued hands, combined with the blue strap and orange stitching, adds a colorful playfulness to the watch. And the SS price is less inaccessible than their earlier models. I agree that the watch could be just a tad smalle...

I agree

I've been savings/thinking about a 1941, can't decide on dial config until I see some in person. I love the remontoire and the window on the front & the exquisite movement. This version is good looking and I have to consider it . At almost half the price ...

It has too much commercial appeal for me

A savvy move by the Gronefeld brothers to stick to a winning formula. An automatic time-only piece makes a lot of sense in fulfilling market demand. Personally I find the previous models a better representation of their horological expertise. Ken

Beautiful execution!

Which opens for many new options from the brothers! Looking forward what this will bring in the future. Best Blomman

I mean, it's expected...

they would offer a time only (simpler) variant... looks sensational... anything from G is exceptionally special... I'm never bothered when an ultra high end manufacture goes 'auto'. A rotor is a nice place to express a brand's values, and this is a gorgeo...

In that case (as you already have one) I would say no.

Unless you want to gift your wife one.
