Sylvian Pinaud Monopoussoir Chronograph

Hello everyone!

I want to introduce you the young French watchmaker, Sylvian Pinaud, who recently settled in Switzerland in order to begin his career as an independent watchmaker.

Last year, he presented his first watch, a single-button chronograph based on the ETA 6497, but I have to say that only the gear train and escapement are left from the original mechanism. While Pino himself makes main plate, bridges, balance, a chronograph module.

Most of the details of this watch are made by hand using traditional tools and machines (lathe, saw, files and other hand tools).

The manual winding movement has a 45-hour power reserve and a traditional chronograph mechanism. The time is displayed on the dial at 12 o’clock, while on the small subdials, you can find the seconds (at 9 o’clock) and the minutes counter (at 3 o’clock).

The watch case in the photographs is made of titanium (also available in 18K red gold) and has a diameter of 42 mm and a height of 12.5 mm.
In the future, Pinaud expects to develop this mechanism in the future, perhaps a date or a power reserve indicator will be added.

Case and buckle in Titanium: 78 000 Chf excluding VAT
Case and buckle in 18K Gold: 88 000 Chf excluding VAT

Share your thoughts, in my opinion this watch is worth attention.

The modular case design is very interesting but is it wearable?

My first reaction is that it enables perhaps an excessive amount of vertical space in the construction of the watch. The architecture is interesting to view, but could one wear it? Could it be adequately sealed? ...

I like the idea of bringing the chronograph components to the dial side

And am surprised it’s only 12.5mm. From the pictures I would have guessed far thicker. I wish Mr. Pinaud much luck and success.

When i read about watch with Unitas based movement i always expect thick case and Pinaud watch is also thick, but i think there's reason for that (it's a chronograph)

99% plain solid case back, at that price? No thanks!

Opting for a sapphire crystal rear, at 30m WR, wouldn’t have added much, if anything at all, to the overall thickness.
