Addenda...and Do pens count?

Mar 07, 2016,17:57 PM

Even if defined as "masters" who passed the AHCI criteria once before, there are anomalies.

Frank Muller is missing from the list even if he is a watchmaker-in-name, nowadays with a big boss.
FP Journe is on the list but actually in the same position as Muller (see above)
Calabrese has goneback to being an individual independent.
I'd be interested to see if ANYONE has a delivered Vyskocil watch!

Roll Call of PuristS owning AHCI members' watches?

 By: cazalea : March 7th, 2016-15:51
I don't know how to do a poll anymore, but could we do a rough count of the PuristS who have AHCI watches? After foversta's post today I thought it might be interesting to see if between us, we have watches from most (or all) of the AHCI members. I am goi...

Um, that first watch is mine!

 By: expwmbat : March 7th, 2016-16:33
I have that exact Jutzi Goldpfeil Regulator, along with an MIH watch and a custom Habring2. Hope that helps. Best, Daniel

Do you think we should count the Jutzi twice, since we've both owned it?

 By: cazalea : March 7th, 2016-16:42
I say yes! Thanks, I'll add them in. Cazalea

Independent good or Independent rubbish?

 By: MTF : March 7th, 2016-17:39
Mike, This survey is fraught with problems. One: there is no denominator. Two: there is no criterium for quality or independence. Independent assembly vs Independent manu- facture? Even if hand crafted....done well by a meister or cobbled together by a we...

Good points; I was thinking of only collecting data on watches by AHCI members

 By: cazalea : March 7th, 2016-17:47
thus those are the only rows in the spreadsheet. However, I can see for example that: Paul Gerber could be associated with MIH (assembly) although did not design all of it, or have its brand name. Frank Jutzi watch was actually "created" or customized by ...

Yes, it's a muddled business, isn't it?

 By: cazalea : March 7th, 2016-18:03
At first I thought perhaps JUST counting the watches currently owned, but that penalizes those who have revolving collections. But if we count ALL the watches EVER owned, there could be multiple owners of the same item (as with Daniel and me) which would ...

As a medical researcher, my sample would be actual watches in possession now

 By: MTF : March 7th, 2016-18:13
Like governments' census...where did you sleep on the night of the census? Since AHCI members make everything from the Guinness Book of Records smallest wooden watch to the big clocks, maybe pens are not so far out to demonstrate skill? Regards, MTF

Do they ask "with whom" you slept on the night of the census?

 By: cazalea : March 7th, 2016-18:22
I daresay that's opening a can of worms, even asking where you slept... Watches are easier, and I think pens should count. (Non-AHCI pen for sample demonstration use only) Mike ...

Looking down the list you include Dubuis. I am not sure they are any longer an independent as I believe that they are partially owned by Richemont. In the list of other independents I could add to that list with a Roger Smith, Don Corson, and Romain Gauth...

Still only the Nienaber..
