New Article on the Frodsham Daniels Double Escapement Chronometer!

Sep 10, 2018,09:32 AM

Courtesy of purist alumnus SJX, we've got new pictures, and a recap of the George Daniels powered watch, with additional details sprinkled in. A great deal of attention has gone into the making of this watch. As SJX points out, it is modern in materials, even as the watchmaking is deeply traditional in many ways. I'm looking forward to it, are any purists joining me? Please let me know!

Magnifique!!

Case Size

I wonder if they will end up making a 39MM or 40MM version.

Case Size con't

 By: galt : September 10th, 2018-15:07
Seems to me that this watch is the type of watch where the most interest would come from a focused range of purist buyers. The type of purists that appreciate Daniels, Roger Smith, Dufour etc. I would think that buyer would be looking at 40MM maximum (pro...

They're sold out through 2020 at least,

So, I don't think that's a concern at the moment for them. Also, FPJ and RWS have pretty much stopped making 38/39mm watches, in favor of 40mm and above. I think the market is different than what purists may often hear about online when speaking to each o...

A small correction my friend if I may

Roger W Smith will start making 38mm watches once again due to the demand for smaller watches. He is currently developing a new case design for the 38mm case. This will only be available for the Series 1,2 and 3. Although the Frodsham is 42.2mm, the short...

The trend

 By: galt : September 11th, 2018-02:20
Informative posr. It seems that very recently there has been quite the reversal in the big is better trend and any decision that was made about a year or more in the past is worth revisiting. Also, it does seem wise to consider the ligs and case type as t...

That's a good point about lugs,

Breguet has changed theirs for their Marine line reboot. This may be in answer to their traditional long lugs sizing some people out.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply!

I think Panerai and Rolex would be good examples of the movement away from huge watches (or, at least offering smaller options, in the case of Panerai). Of course, we're looking at 42mm down to 41mm or 40mm, not below 40 for new Rolexes, and they've kept ...

Now that I think about it, there're are 39mm Lange 1 and now a 39mm Jaquet Droz

Woman have been commonly wearing men's style watches for the last few years. So, you end up with sub 40mm men's watches that are unisex. It's a pretty good deal for men with smaller wrists. I would wear a guilloche dial lange 1 at 39mm.

I would go one further and wear the 36.8mm

Little Lange 1 moonphase. Sublime dial! ...

It really is beautiful! [nt]

Maybe, one day

Sounds right to me :-)

Although FPJ tends to rely a lot on its boutiques for sales and after sales service, the service itself is generally good even if the cost of servicing is not, due to the movement layout! I have full confidence in Lange servicing in terms of the quality o...

I was teetering on the edge

 By: ant : September 10th, 2018-12:05
of placing an order but in the end the 42mm size was just too much for me and, with deep regret, I was unable to go ahead. 39-40mm would have been ideal but I could have lived with 41. Just a 0.5mm decrease in the case thickness, that's all it would take....

Well, maybe the next one will be smaller!

Let Richard know how close you came and that the size was the thing, maybe it will sway him for the furture.

Awesome Watches...

Really like the old skool English decoration and feel of the watches, the escapement is the stuff of dreams but even so in my opinion they are way over priced. Should be half for what they are asking at least. Don't get me wrong I have the same opinion ab...

Happy? No, but I can see where the money goes in this watch

It's not like many watches that are expensive to be a status symbol, divorced from anything else.

+1 [nt]

Only there competition at that price point is a tough one imo .

That's for sure! At US$ 100k, you have some lovely watches

 By: Spangles - Dr. Tabby : September 11th, 2018-08:33
Kari V and Rexhep Rehepi's new watch, as well as complications from Patek et al. VC just came out with a lovely dressy/casual tourbillon with nice finishing at US$113k. The appeal with the Frodsham is in the one-of-a-kind movement (for wristwatches, at le...

Hope to see them in person one day .
