Moritz Grossmann Hamatic Vintage
Nov 22, 2020,19:32 PM
I have always been captivated by the innovative and cleverly-designed movement of the Hamatic, so as soon as the revived German brand announced a limited production of 25 pieces bearing the old 1875 logo, I quickly pulled the trigger.
Reminiscent of old pocket watches, the watch has a classical look - it is housed in white gold with a black dial. What is amazing is that the hands are hand-made, extremely thin (o.1 mm) and practically invisible that one can almost launch a criticism.
Here are some hastily taken smart phone pictures. The watch measures 41 mm x 11.35 mm
And of course, the fascinating Caliber 106.0 movement...
Note the egg-shaped pendulum - the center of gravity lies at the other end of the pivot to give the movement the utmost efficiency - a mere 5 degree turn is enough to set the mainspring in motion.
The finishing is, needless to say, superb - the bridges (made of German silver), chatons and everything is impeccably executed.
Here is a wrist shot...
How does the watch compare to its close sibling - the Benu in platinum (limited to 10 pieces) which bears the modern logo?
