Kickstarter Watch - Furlan Marri

Our friend singingbee shared his Havana Salmon below with some commentary.

This is one of two I purchased from the Kickstarter campaign earlier this year.  It’s the “Mr Grey”. The watches have started to be delivered in the last few weeks and I know there are others here who’ve also purchased them.

As singingbee states, the fact that is not a mechanical watch will lose many people’s attention immediately.  And that’s often the case for me too.  However in this instance the appeal of the design (on paper, in images) was enough to draw me in.

I’m happy to have a vintage inspired quartz (mechaquartz) for a few hundred dollars.  I’ve been wearing my “good stuff” less and less for several reasons and so I actually see these watches getting some real wrist time.

There is no running seconds.  The sub dial at 3pm is a 24hr indicator. And as mentioned it’s a (Seiko VK64) mechaquartz, that is there is a mechanical module for the chronograph which allows for a classic sweeping seconds center chronograph hand all the time being powered by the quartz battery.

Some pictures of Mr Grey.

This is a very nice vintage-inspired chrono…

it reminds me a bit of Hoffman watches, which are also mechaquartz. But this case and dials stand out more impressively.

It was hard to know what the end product would be, but the pitch, the pictures of the prototypes all looked positive.

They’ve done a nice job with the design. Pulling together various elements we are all familiar with but to honest “real vintage” is not my thing so I have no idea about the sources of inspiration. What I do know is that I like what I see !

Looks great!

This is very good value for money

I was leaning to the black reverse panda version but looking at these pics, I think I will go with the grey dial

I also picked up the “Farro”, so the same dial you were looking at but with the gold plated case and markers/numerals.

I think the Mr Grey dial is more attractive, has a more vintage feel or aesthetic. At the price, you could buy two and I’m sure a friend would be happy to take the one you prefer least ! That was my strategy anyway.

I have the ‘Tasti Tondi’ and it’s excellent.

What I’ve noticed among other things is how it holds its own in a box alongside watches many multiples its purchase price. FM has set a high bar for watches priced under $500 and, if it can help democratize the hobby, that’s cause for celebration.
