Incoming, do I go for it?

Hi again everyone and thanks to everyone for the help on my Armin Strom choices.  I believe I have found the watch I want and wanted to post it for you comments.  It is rose gold with a custom Kari white enamel solid rose gold dial.  I will receive the Watch on Tuesday and have the chance to try it on for Fit and looks before I wire the money, The dealer has been very accommodating in that way. The question I have is about the watch brand in general, Armin Strong does not seem to have a strong presence in the market and I’m a little afraid I may have a fleeting love affair with this watch and be stuck with it possibly losing good money and I do have the new FP Journe Resonance on order.  I have researched everywhere but cannot get a handle on the value proposition and since I have a lot of very nice watches I always try to buy ones that I will wear and be keepers.

I am getting a considerable discount off of retail but that may be because they are hard to sell. That being said, the unique resonance movement, the custom dial and the philosophy of the company making 95% of the parts in house is compelling to me.  I know the saying “buy what you love“ but affirmation is always nice and I appreciate any comments that you can give… Jim

Yes we all say buy what you love....

But be prepared to lose another 50% of what is already discounted, sorry but it’s the truth in this market and for me as a worker bee, I cannot justify love with the loss, should one day I need to trade it. Good for you if you can stomach it....it’s a gre...

Clueless :-)

Great input, the looks, the R&D and the resonance make me want it, I am lucky to have the chance to try it on...Jim

My opinion

Being very familiar with your collection, you have many LESS exciting watches in your collection which cost you a lot MORE money. Most of the safe purchases you made you have moved away from, trading them for far more original and creative timepieces whic...

And you know me so well, thanks for helping me become the collector I want to be, and what a great quote, I wonder where you got that from ...Jim

It's a gorgeous watch, definitely a connoisseur's piece

 By: jleno : June 28th, 2020-13:03
I'm sure the value proposition is great compared to other brands, but resale might take a hit due to the low visibility of the brand. You're getting a unique complication that required significant R&D to develop, good finishing front and back, and an ...

Yes the chance to try it on seems like the consensus.

I really have researched a ton and everything I read and watch tells me this is a great watch, I’ll let you all know what I do Tuesday...Jim

Most of my watches are indies and i know a lot will loose a huge amount when I decide to sell them but tbh i can live with that .

 By: Watchonthewrist : June 28th, 2020-13:36
I know it can be a expensive hobby . I try to be selective when purchasing a watch because i know i will keep it for a long time and enjoy it to the max , thats the best way to justify all the money I spent. I would say if your not thinking of selling thi...

Hi Watchonthe wrist

 By: GreatPilot@me.com : June 28th, 2020-14:25
If I like what I see I would not sell the watch anytime soon, thanks for the encouragement...Jim

It's honestly a great looking and unusual piece. And you seem to be perfectly clear on the more obvious pros and cons: you are likely going to love it, and you'll certainly lose money on it.

Given this, I really think that deciding which of the two should prevail in making this decision is entirely up to you... The only unknown that remains is how the watch will feel on your wrist on Tuesday: will something "click" strongly enough when you tr...

As always thank you Fab

And great advice, visually the watch has “clicked” with me already, Tuesday will be the test and I will let you all know what I decide...Jim

Armin Strom, just be verrrry certain you LOVE this watch or any by AS.... otherwise yes, own what you love. But if this is a 'maybe' in your mind or a choice based on a moment's passion, I would advise, wait 2-4 weeks... Just let it simmer... be SURE you ...

Great comments Mostel

And right on the money, I think my awareness of everything said on this post is in the back of my mind but it certainly helps to have a dose of reality. Honest crudeness is a good communication too and it appreciate your input. I have gotten a better idea...

Not almost every watch from every brand will suffer the resale that AS will... it is specific advice... with that said, yes, true, most every watch from every brand will suffer 30%-60% loss resale... (except for the ONES everyone is searching for) but an ...

A nice way to say

 By: GreatPilot@me.com : June 28th, 2020-16:53
A nice way to say this watch Brand has some potential and we don’t know what’s going to happen down the road, thank you Mostel… Jim

It would be a red flag for me

 By: matto1 : June 28th, 2020-15:08
if the dealer was offering a big discount on these new pieces. Most of the (widely considered) top independents like, Kari V, Gronefeld, V Halter, Lang & Heyne, G Forsey, Rexhepi, etc don't seem to offer much, if any, discounts on their new pieces. Th...

Absolutely correct

Absolutely correct! A large discount does raise a red flag and that has to be considered regardless of what some think on this site. Unless you’re filthy rich value must be discussed in someway to make objective decisions. On this watch, by Tuesday I will...

Hi Jim, ok I will try and give you an objective view...

I have seen and tried on a couple of these AS watches. I think they are actually amazing and from what I have read and seen, the quality and R&D are very high. Their Pure Resonance model is a marvel from a technical standpoint as well. Since you already s...

Thank you Justin, very good observations

Thank you Justin, very good observations. Getting the FPJ certainly has an effect on what I may do. This AS is a very different watch. Really me loving it is worth more than its ultimate value later on and although the next comment is about not talking ab...

It is definitely a watch with a strong personality

and taste is a very personal thing so I will not comment on the beauty of the watch. It obviously appeals a lot to you and that is the most important thing. As for the notoriety of the brand it is obviously a very niche brand so the market for such a bran...

Thank you Mike, I think you’re telling me “enough said“ . I know it is taboo to talk about pricing and values too much on this website and I do try my best to walk that line carefully. I do have a lot of input and I am satisfied I will make a great decisi...

At this point you are definitely eyes wide open on this potential purchase and that’s great.

I think all that’s left is for you to see how it feels on the wrist tomorrow. For me, given the other factors discussed in this thread, anything less than being blown away by the piece on wrist tomorrow would mean a no for me. I’ve bought several pieces w...

in fact I was originally going to buy the stainless steel with a blue dial but when I saw this rose gold one with the white enamel I felt exactly what you said, the white enamel was much warmer. After much research and looking at the pictures of the watch...

Certainly a stunning watch

I won’t rehash the resale issues. Prefer the dial of this watch to the Journe Resonance. However, my knowledge of resonance movements is insufficient to objectively consider the merits of Armin Strom’s clutch spring vs. Journe’s spring-free approach. The ...
