The question is, what are you in two minds about?

Jul 14, 2022,19:12 PM

For me, “collecting” is a personal thing where I want to feel there is value in the things I have (or am lusting after), and not always is that about monetary value - that being said, I wouldn’t like the thought of losing my proverbials by buying something that will go to zero value once I walk out of the store.

There are pieces I have that make me happy I have them - because I like them, possibly partly due to the hype around them, but also because I feel the value will hold and it will be one less reason for my wife to want to kill me wink

Other pieces I have simply because I find them interesting, and likely someone else will also find them interesting (though perhaps not as many as with the old reliables of PP or Rolex). This they could be considered “collectible” for various reasons in my opinion.

I think building a collection is about having a mix of things that you like, with some as general foundation pieces in terms of design, movements and of course values, but others that are more indulgent in a just-because-I-like-it and to hell with the value down the line (of course depending on the purchase price too!).
I would hazard a guess that with the popularity of the Singer brand, there will likely always be some sort of market for these limited prices. And either way, if you decide to pick it up (I don’t know if it’s either/or with the Moser) you’ll know that you have something quite rare on your wrist, and won’t bump into anyone else with one (probably) which in itself is a nice “value” to have smile

All the very best in your decision Jim.
Niall

Hello all I need your help…

 By: GreatPilot@me.com : July 14th, 2022-16:16
I put a deposit on a Singer Reimagined special edition (only 15 made) in yellow gold months ago, now the watch is in and I have mixed emotions on following through. The watch is open in the front for the first time with the Rotor being like a Porsche whee...

I don't understand these watches...

 By: mdg : July 14th, 2022-16:22
...Singer makes incredible automobiles, but I can't read the time on this thing...

Exactly my feeling - it's totally confusing to look at

 By: cazalea : July 14th, 2022-16:39
I have a difficult time switching to my few watches with unusual time display - you have lots of watches like I do, so where them each only occasionally -- I would think you would have the same confusion.

Hi cazalea

 By: GreatPilot@me.com : July 14th, 2022-17:53
On the Singer website they have a video with the time moving fairly slowly and it really is pretty easy to read and understand, its like the M.A.D.from MB&F… my question evolves around collecting the watch more than wearing the watch. Would my money be sp...

Hello MDG, the Dial can be confusing

 By: GreatPilot@me.com : July 14th, 2022-17:49
The time is very simple you read it at 6 o’clock both hours and minutes the rest of the dial is dedicated to the chronograph… Jim

Not gonna lie…🤮

 By: myles721 : July 14th, 2022-16:39
Dizzying and chaotic.

Thanks for your honesty Myles…Jim

Thank you Amanico

 By: GreatPilot@me.com : July 14th, 2022-17:55
But it is a little more complicated than that, I am a car guy with a Porsche 992, I plan on buying a few more Porsches to collect so it does tie into the watch nicely in that regard. Also I really want to be a world class watch collector and not all Watch...

I agree with Nico, by your own logic you should buy and own everything Porsche connected simply for the sake of it….

 By: CGJ0 : July 14th, 2022-22:54
No - buy items which speak to you and give you enjoyment. This is a needless trinket based on your comments.

Agreed…Jim

This movement you have in Faberge Visionnaire as well. Have you checked?

Thank you @lberti

 By: GreatPilot@me.com : July 14th, 2022-17:57
Yes I have looked at the Fabergé before and it certainly is easier to tell the time on and It’s half the price, a great point you make especially since I’m going to get the Moser also… Jim

Maybe I am misunderstanding you here, but it sounds like you made a commitment and send a deposit, correct?

 By: BigFatPauli : July 14th, 2022-17:06
If so, you really should follow through: A deal is a deal, especially once money has changed hands. The company held this watch for you specifically and potentially turned away other customers who wanted one because of your commitment. UNLESS the deposit ...

I have to agree here as well..

 By: jp884 : July 14th, 2022-17:26
They may have not ordered the watch if it weren't for your request for the watch, especially once a deposit is made.

Hi JP884

See my answer above, I am a business person with a lot of integrity, I would not take advantage of an AD, I build strong relationships and keep my word… Jim

What I read was that you had "mixed emotions on following through".

 By: jp884 : July 14th, 2022-18:54
If it were me personally I would buy the watch as I had committed to it and had put a deposit down. Many manufacturers may not need deposits as they know the watch will move quickly if you pass on it (so that is a different story). Esthetics on this watch...

I would assume they can return it...

 By: christianch : July 15th, 2022-21:57
I don't think is fair that the client has to buy a watch if he doesn't like it anymore or, like in this case, if is a pretty terrible investment

+1

 By: doubleup : July 14th, 2022-17:27
Sounds like you may be committed. If you are a follower of this brand and you walk, you may not have the opportunity to get future LE pieces. If they are just coming out you may be able to unload and minimize the hit. My 2 cents. Beautiful movement !

Hi doubletap, I can’t seem to get an answer to my questions

 By: GreatPilot@me.com : July 14th, 2022-18:03
It seems everyone wants to think I’ll take advantage but I’m not, it’s a simple question about a very different watch that is limited to 15. With all due respect to everyone I don’t need business advice I need advice on what people think of the watch itse...

So my honest opinion

 By: penfriend : July 14th, 2022-18:34
To me it does not appeal at all, I would not purchase it whatever the value could be. Arguing the purchase with a future collection of Porsche 911 seems really weird to me - then I would rather purchase the watches that come with special edition 911. Only...

I would pass on the opportunity on any brand that forces me to buy a watch. In this case

 By: christianch : July 15th, 2022-22:00
a very hard to move one. (I personally never buy to sell but I can ssee the logic exposed by Jim: he wants to buy keeping an eye on appreciation and this for me is not going to be the case).

Here's the thing, do you, or anyone, honestly think this question would have been asked if the watch was selling for 1.5X retail. Of course not.

 By: BigFatPauli : July 16th, 2022-12:42
Whether you agree or not, that behaviour really, really bothers many collectors and many feel it is the biggest thing wrong with the current watch world. And this brand isn't JLC with a large customer base - It's a small brand that doesn't have the networ...

I agree with you 100% when you make a deal you make a deal, that being said I specifically asked that the deposit be refundable because I had never seen any of these watches in person. Following the market for the last few months it seems these watches fr...

So it sounds like you are really only buying on spec and in the hopes of a quick flip.

100% not true!

a deposit is just that, a deposit. Even if this was a contract to buy one has always the right to say no if he doesn't like the watch or changes his mind. Let's not forget that major brands like Vacheron, JLC, and many others do allow you even the possibi...

I agree 100%, building a collection is a mix of things and some of those things tie to other things we collect, like Porsche‘s. That takes a decision somewhat out of the purest realm and in to the logic realm. I do know when I wear a watch when someone ac...

I believe Singer is a small, highest-end car customizer who only really appeals to Porsche people. There are plenty of those in the world, but the Porsche lovers who also like watches are also sought after by Porsche themselves and a variety of other watc...

my advice, seen the price cancel the order

 By: christianch : July 14th, 2022-22:07
I doubt they would keep the price for long...if it appears so is just because there are very few buyers. No reason to cost more than the moser.

the singer price is not high, is simply out of touch with reality

 By: christianch : July 15th, 2022-15:22
I wouldn't be surprised to see many of these unsold or ...sold and then unable to be moved. The design is also not so wow. So unless one is totally in love with it and plans to keep it, easy pass.

Thank you very much for your comments Christianch

Your point is well taken… Jim

The Moser would be my choice tbh

 By: Watchonthewrists : July 14th, 2022-22:46
The movement is amazing but the watch itself never put a big smile on my face

Totally subjective view but I do not see any Singer watch as collectible (insofar as value retention is an aspect of collectibility).

 By: Jay (Eire) : July 14th, 2022-22:49
Is the watch interesting? Yes, I think so. I actually like the dial and emphasis on the chronograph. And of course the movement is widely recognized, so no questioning that aspect really. But I don’t see collectors climbing all over each other to get this...

Hello Jay, thanks for the input.

It is interesting and why I have followed them. I held off so far on the other models as I had the Moser coming. It is a confusing complex looking dial and I really can’t see myself timing something for 60 hours!…JIm
