Double-edged sword
We collectors have demanded that the brands develop in-house movements to prove their horological prowess, but do we think the value added by having those in-house calibers is worth the premium prices that such watches command? I guess we each have to answer that question for ourselves for every particular case, while acknowledging the fact that there is some apples to oranges comparisons: I'd rather have a PAM 312 than a PAM 104; I'd rather have a Calibre de Cartier than a Santos 100; but I can also see cases where I might not feel that way. When it comes to Jaquet Droz, I admire the dials and cases, and am perfectly happy with the Piguet movements inside. I will not want to pay a premium for an in-house movement for that brand.
I'l have to find out where PSM is pricing his new watches to determine if I think the value is compelling or not.

I really enjoyed your article. It's wonderful to see PSM's work evolving and growing, while still maintaining its signature elements. I do love his watches and the duality that they exhibit; classic elements paired with modern techniques and designs. You ...

If memory serves me correctly, there is a tooth a bit bigger than the others on one quadrant of that program wheel that tells one that is the leap year. From there one just fasts forward to the correct year in the 4 year cycle. Hope this helps, Cheers, Ti...
