CALASYS - more information for the non-Facebook folk among us
Sep 17, 2021,17:56 PM
Self-taught master watchmaker, Vincent Calabrese demonstrated the workings of his invention on an pre-existing movement – the well-known Eta 2892 – in which the spiral hairspring was simply replaced by the Calasys connected to the escapement, keeping the rest of the mechanism totally intact.
With a prospect of global importance, the aim of Calabrese’s Calasys System is to “eliminate the defects of the hairspring simply and effectively” and “to be suitable for use in every type of escapement” obtaining “greater performance” and “much easier maintenance”.
As he himself explained on demonstrating the details of the presentation, the architecture of the oscillator has completely changed. With Calasys, there is a double recall with two identical independent arms that guarantee less gravitational affect and greater rate of precision. Until now, nothing of the kind had ever been seen before.
One extraordinary aspect of Calasys is that Vincent Calabrese will not sell the new system to the highest bidder or restrict it by patents. He will, instead, share the discovery with the entire watchmaking world: “I’m more interested in the philosophical development of our sector than making money.”
Despite all the press release info, remarkably litte hard data has reached the watchmaking Internet so far.

Vincent is a visionary

The philosophy to share, rather than making money is visionary. I like that. Time should be free to approach. And Italian artists are unique. Centuries ago Leonardo was there, we still wondering his inventions. Formidable.
Thanks for sharing!

It's great that he has developed this as an open source project! I look forward to some more hard data about friction issues or non-issues (fingers crossed) and ways to regulate this in different positions. I must admit that when the word revolution and s...

as it is much more than just a mechanism. Even NEW materials are, here, created and used to increase accuracy and easier service, if any should be needed ;-) Vincent had imagined this 10 YEARS ago, and now it is REAL. Stay tune for next updates, published...
