Benzinger - Ordered
Jun 13, 2021,04:32 AM
Really enjoying the process with Benzinger so far. I had him
change the design a bit to show the balance wheel in action. If people are OK
with the whole off the shelf movement thing, then I think Habring, Benzinger,
Dornbluth and other small german watchmakers offer a ton of bang for buck.
Personally, I don't mind at all as I don't see the point of a unique movement
unless it adds a specific function to the piece. The process of designing
something with a watchmaker is really fun too, reminds me of working with a
luthier for a custom guitar.
Also decided to lean into the over the top skeletonization
and engraving thing, and get a cool floral motif on the back. The company I am
stuck CEOing for a while is a floral co...so figured it would be appropriate. Will post pics when it's done in a few months.

In the distant future a good watchmaker will be able to obtain parts and service the watch without it costing the earth.

Your first custom Benzinger. I lurk the replies of friends, curious we are all. By coincidence i read and seen even a video of Benzinger, telling to a journalist about his passion for watches and what he want to do with his watch brand. Proud he told abou...

Received pics a few weeks ago. Should be getting close to the finish line now. Opting for a mesh bracelet instead of rubber like I had initially planned ...
I couldn't agree with your remarks about the use of ébauche.

I feel like we have reached - or passed - the high water mark of in-house frippery. Traditional watchmaking was never like that. Also, it was nice to stumble across your post. I've been eyeing Benzinger for a little while now, both for the artfulness and ...

Yeah exactly, unless there's a unique function or aesthetic to the movement, it's just an extra expense.

Sort of wish they made their movements in house but at that price point and with that quality of finish/customize can't really complain and they change the movement so much, it does not look anything like its past self! Congrats on this amazing future wat...
